Class of 2017 (From Nepal) - Official Discussion Thread. . .

@batuli

Did you get your need based aid?
I too got accepted with 18k merit aid. But, DePauw is yet to provide need based aid?

yndnepali Okay… congratulations to him once again…

It’s as if literally EVERYONE who applied is getting into DePauw. They always do this. They take so many people than they can provide need-based aid too, and in the end, most of them don’t attend.

there are already 5 nepalese accepted in ed in trinity and rd decisions yet to come… seems like trinity loves nepalese students :P

btw I came across earlier discussions going on about trinity colleges that its among the scariest college… Can anyone shade a light on that too
I have applied rd and I am curious

looks like the ed nepalese are gonna take all the aid. Poor rds.

The president of Trinity loves Nepali people. He has been to Nepal a couple of times, and calls Nepal to be the most beautiful place in Asia.
Last year, Trinity accepted no Nepali, but this year the Director of International Admissions had promised me when I talked to her that there will be some Nepali next year.
Also, Trinity takes most internationals in ED. Getting accepted in RD will be really tough. Aid will be almost gone!!!

Congratulations to all the satisfied people with their acceptances, and good luck for the rest of you. I have been through the pain twice, but still…it is what it is.

alas. If i could go back to time and change that selection in commonapp.

no,I have not. I think they will provide need aid to selected few after all the decisions are out. Does anyone know when will gettysburg ed ii decisions be out?

congrats to trinity accepted student.I heard 2 students frm bnks got in trinity. Is it?

no only one got in trinity from bnks

no ED acceptances into Middlebury from Nepal yet? Or am I mistaken?

In case anyone’s interested, I got deferred from Lafayette…

Hey Guys, for those who are wondering, I got into Colby EDII with almost full aid

@hulk: keep the hope alive.

@wickedcreature: wow! congrats. If you don’t mind sharing your stats (these are just numbers and don’t reflect who you are as a person. I know right!), I am very interested.

nepalimussa: you too mate!

And yes, congrats wickedcreature32

those who applied to Berea: did you get an email confirming the receipt of your application packet from Berea admissions?

Accepted to Depauw and received the same 19k merit aid.

Guys, do you believe Depauw can meet all of our needs? I mean it is accepting every Nepali with full merit aid. Do you know seniors who have received good fin-aid packages from Depauw? My family contribution was 11k per year. Wouldn’t it be insane to pay more than that to attend Depauw?

Do not expect DePauw to give you additional need-based aid. Last year I noticed there were two types of letters sent to accepted students. Both the letters had merit scholarships given, but one type had an extra paragraph regarding need based aid. The paragraph talked about how they will consider your need based aid and get back to you within April 15. Also, they ask us to increase our contribution . All of my friends except I had the former letter so I thought they actually wanted me and consider giving me additional aid. But they did not. When I wrote to them about the need base aid, they said they had given all of their aid and if we did not receive such email we were not to expect any. So for the sake of it, I almost tripled my contribution and not surprisingly they congratulated me with additional 10K need based aid. This college wants money and nothing else. Unless you are extremely good, they might take give you additional aid, but they are expecting you to increase your contribution. A Nepali from DePauw transferred to the college I attend right now in her sophomore year because of financial constraints in DePauw.
This is just my experience, of course.

Good luck people.

@eyeamme: thanks for taking the time to help us out. is it possible to know which college you are attending now?

also, will you suggest how much should I be willing to contribute? I had initially mentioned 11k. How much did you finally agree to contribute?

Allegheny is also asking to increase the contribution. Will anyone please tell me how much is a reasonable family contribution for a upper middle class Nepali family? My parents told me to write the amount I feel reasonable. Now I am lost.
