How did he find the uni? Anything you know. Is he not doing graduate studies ? How good is his job? You can reply after your posts get 15 in number,if you want to keep it private.

I read somewhere about bargaining for financial aid. How do we bargain for more financial aid? Are financial aid decisions final? Can colleges be persuaded into giving us more aid than they have decided to? Or will this be considered a cheap act? Has anyone tried this before?

^I haven’t done it. But AFAIK, you usually tell your circumstances why you can’t pay the amount you are supposed to. Then they check out things like if the circumstances are persuasive or not, also the authenticity ( like somewhere batuli said that a guy was rejected for visa with an I-20 of 10K, because amount would have been the reason, they reduced to 7K, and he then got a visa)…Also, they see how important are you for the college… They may sometimes make no effort to bargain with you because of students similar as you wait-listed…The other times, they want you no matter what because you may be one of the best students they have got…
No, it won’t be considered a cheap act. The college, too, wants that you attend it ( the college) without any financial difficulty. It’s like an agreement and you should both really be comfortable with it…
And yes, don’t hesitate to bargain if you really need to do so…

Has any Nepalese friend got an interview from Yale-NUS yet? i.e. for the round two of admissions… coz I know that one folk got accepted in the first round.

Only if we all could pay at least 40k… colleges would shower us with acceptances then. lol

^ at least 40k haha… If I tell my parents that I will have to pay that much, then I don’t know what in the earth they will do… :D

My knowledge tells ability to finance 20-25k per year would be enough to get good acceptances.

Anyone get into Kenyon? :

@Vivaciousakrish: I know one who is waitlisted.

Guys, anybody of you have applied to University of Chicago or know people who applied to UChicago? I want to know the number of applicants from Nepal this year.

And ya, all the best everyone. BRACE YOURSELVES. College admission decisions are coming!

Yes I was waitlisted too, but that’s essentially a rejection. 328 people waitlisted for fall 2011, 15 accepted. Fat chance.

And yeah, the guy who got into Yale-NUS applied to UChicago. lol

I was waitlisted in Kenyon too… They told that they have wait listed around 200 candidates this year…

No. They offer waitlist status to about a thousand applicants - about 200-400 accept it.

Seems like Kenyon waitlists a lot of people. Good luck to everyone though.

did anyone have interview from kenyon? I too had applied to Kenyon and had a interview. Now that I have withdrawn my app from Kenyon, I wish best of luck to evry Kenyon aspirants

Anybody applied to Caltech and Washington University in St. Louis? The decisions are out. Any acceptances?

I know a very strong candidate rejected from Cal tech.

@batuli: Do you know when DePauw is going to send their need based aid package to us? It is mentioned “by March 20th” in their website. But, I really doubt that they are going to meet my need. Why the hell is depauw giving merit aid to so many instead of giving full aid to few? :/

That’s just their policy. From what I’ve gathered, they are trying to “sell” the DePauw experience, and it has worked on Vietnamese, Chinese and Indian students. So yeah, a FEW might get need-based aid this year, but most who apply from Nepal will only be accepted w/ little merit aid.

Anyone else get an interview for Honors Scholars from DePauw? Unless everyone who applies for this gets it too…
