taking SAT nov 3!! and confused with no. 2 pencil! can’t i use the pencil we normally use in nepal?? and i don’t even know about no. 2 pencil!! :P

Go to USEF. They sell no. 2 pencil :D

Hey guys nice topic you’ve started here. I’m an alevels student and got sat in december. A question has been bugging me, though might not matter to some, but i’m sure will to most. I read you’re only allowed to stay in the states for a year and after that forced to leave the country since its very hard to get a work permit now. So whats the point to studying a bachelors there when you aren’t event allowed to stay there? Is there any possible way? I’m applying to usa and canada.

P.s: my grandparents are american citizens so are my 3 uncles.

If I remember correctly, a couple people got the blue book under the overhead crossing at Ratnapark. I borrowed it from some people.

2 pencil is just HB pencil. I think Nataraj works too.

if you major in STEM fields, you get to work for 29 months (or 24, i forgot). During that time, you might get a work permit. Also, you can go to grad school.

I eventually plan to come back and I don’t regret coming here. The faculty (at my small, private liberal arts school) is amazing and they care a lot about students and if they learn or not. That’s why it’s worth it for me.

Can you please tell about you financial aid? I know most of colleges reject international students because of financial aid. Any way, I think you had been strong applicant because one of my friend with 2130 could make Lafayette, even he applied for ED.

It’s almost full ride.

SAT isn’t everything, I’ve said this many times. Do not even think for a second that just because you’ve got stellar SATs, you are going to be accepted. Colleges don’t just want high SATs, they want students that match.

@sixstringsrocker

Thanks. Also, what about the PR tests?

what do you mean? PR tests=Princeton Review’s SAT prep book practice tests.

They are slightly easier but still worth doing.

@sixstringsrocker : What are the chances of getting the work permit? ( this is too early to know, but I am just curious.).
And if it’s just the 24 months, will we have to leave the country after doing the grad?
( you see, grad is of 2 years total)

@macmurderharder: If you are asking where you could find the PR tests/book, I am afraid you will not get it. I searched for it some 4 months back in every book store ( old book sellers too), but wasn’t able to find . Some said it’s no more available in Nepal. But you can give it a try.
You will surely get it @ USEF, though!

@12hulk345 cant i use normal pencil to take SAT???

Sent from my SGH-T959 using CC

@spykid9849: yes you can and definitely you can.
just make sure that you fill up the bubbles completely…
Best of luck :)

work permit depends upon the employer. Very few good companies hire internationals and it’s very hard to get in. You have to make sure you did a stellar job in college. It’s hard to get a job, that’s it.

Grad school is 4-6 years. Grad school usually means PhD. Getting funding for just a masters is super duper hard. PhD is better. You’ll still get the 24-29 months after grad school, I think. I’m not entirely sure.

@sixstringsrocker: got that, thanx !!

I just re-read what macmurderharder asked and what 12hulk345 replied. I hadn’t understood the question previously.

Anyways, I’ve collected the official practice tests from college board that it puts online every year from 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13 and some other stuff I had in Nepal that i think is very important. PM me your email address and I will contact you via my email. remember that when you type your email, even in private message, CC will convert everything after ‘@’ to asterisks. so you need to tell me separately which domain you use, like gmail or yahoo.

macmurderharder, PM me asap with your email.

has anyone tried calling up the admissions office? is it expensive?

I haven’t . But I don’t think it will be expensive if you do internet calling. Only charges Rs 1/min ( or so).

@nepalimussa

Yeah, you can definitely email it to the admissions officer. Worked for me! :D

sixstringsrocker- how about interviews?? Also, have you work in admission office during you period in Lafayatte? Actually, what admission officers look to make decision that yeah this student should come to my college, even if financial aid is high? Also, during your application process, how frequently you made contact with admission officer? Seems alot of encouragement, when you wrote that SAT is not everything. Anyway, that friend got in Dartmouth, which obviously shows that SAT is not everything.

thanks…and how do we send ISFAA? should we mail it to the admissions office although the rest of our other application is online?..can’t we just fill it up, scan it and send it via email?

does anyone know what our seniors used to do?
