mail it up. I sent everything EMS. however, talked to admissions. They sometimes accept scanned copies (signed by GC/Principal of course).

I don’t know anything about interviews. I’ve never worked for admissions. I contacted admissions whenever I had a question, and to check if they needed anything more, etc.

imo, what colleges look at is the full application. What can you bring to the college? Why are you different? what is so good about you that they should invest upwards of $200,000 on you? Think about that.

@sixstringsrocker: what verification document did you send for ISFAA?

and how long did EMS take to deliver the application package? can you also tell how much it costs per delivery?

thanks for the help guys

i just sent the ISFAA, CoF, Bank statement, Salary Sheet. I mailed color prints of everything.

I think it took 7-10 days or so…it was Rs 1300 per package. It was 3 years ago though.

Hey guys, I know this is not anything related to college application process but I figured this would be the best place to ask for some help.

I’m looking for some nepali songs (slightly old). I’ll share my dropbox folder online, and you just have to keep it running in the background while it uploads. Any one with a reasonably fast internet wanna help me out? Please PM if you can.

@sixstringsrocker: sorry i don’t even know what a dropbox folder means

Hey guys, if you don’t mind, what is your family contribution?

The maximum my family can contribute is $3000 for the first year. If i write $3000 as my family contribution, do i need to ask my family in Nepal to contribute $3000 every other year till I graduate? and does it mean i need to pay separately for travel tickets, health insurance, books and personal expenses? does that mean my actual expenses will cross $6000 although my family agreed to contribute only 3000 dollars in the first place?

Will my chances of admission dramatically go down if i write $0 in my family contribution? 3000 dollars will be a huge burden to my family but i am sure it will not be a note worthy amount to the universities. My family is just able to afford the plane tickets, health insurance and personal expenses. so, any suggestions?

Depends upon the colleges. Some of the top colleges take everything from Personal expenses, health insurance and books cost as the total cost of attendance (Most top LACs and Universities lie in this category)…

The best way is to go the “Tuition and Fees” section of the website of the University and see if their “Total Cost of Attendance” includes aforementioned fees… If included, your 3 thousand dollar EFC will cover those, if not, those must be covered by you in addition…

I believe, they ask on ISFAA and ISCF if and How will you pay for the Air travel and summer stay

@jacobswannabe: hey thanks

can anyone please answer the second part of my post?, which is:

Will my chances of admission dramatically go down if i write $0 in my family contribution? 3000 dollars will be a huge burden to my family but i am sure it will not be a note worthy amount to the universities.

The general trend is that you mustn’t leave any stone unturned, financial or otherwise, to show that you are eager to attend and contribute towards your US education… So, don’t write $0 in your family contribution…

By looking at the angle of your concern, I guess that your family’s annual earning mustn’t be beyond $10,000 to $15,000 ( I think that is even lesser)… A family income around this figure without a huge asset generally makes you eligible for a full ride at a need-based college… So, You shouldn’t worry about that much…

I happen to know a little bit about these issues… so if you want to talk about it more… PM me… and tell me the colleges you are applying to…

@jacobswannabe: thanks. PMed you.

@jacobswannabe: do you mean I don’t really have to pay $3000 even if I mention that as my family contribution if my family’s annual income is much less than $10,000.

be extremely sure of what the college tells you. Most colleges don’t cover health insurance and personal expenses. When you say $3000, it means $3000/year so you will have to aks your family for that money or come up with the money from somewhere anyway, every year.

Health insurance costs will go up every year for some reason by as much as $500/year. The total cost of attendance could be much higher than what you expect.

DEPENDING ON THE SCHOOL, you might have to pay summer stay fees if you’re not going home, winter stay fees, meals during summer and winter, HEALTH INSURANCE!!! (this is a big one and it depends on what you get). books, some travel, your cell phone, and what not. Be extremely specific when you ask the school what exactly do you need to pay. Keep in mind all these things.

wow you guys are so much help…i really appreciate it.

I have 70% in +2 management, and 1300/1980 SAT score. I am hugely involved in extra curricular activities, some really huge ones like national and international representations. I need a full ride to study in USA.

I don’t have a good application essay because I am not very confident about my writing abilities, but my teacher recommendations are really nice (i read them although i shouldn’t have, lol).

Can you please suggest what colleges would be a match for me? I am really stuck. I look at a college I like and it is so competitive; i don’t think i can really get into a good college and don’t want to apply to a so-so college because they don’t have generous financial aid.

WOW!! Class of 2017. Good luck guys!

Long time no see, confidential2015? busy with school?

@nepalimussa

“I don’t have a good application essay because I am not very confident about my writing abilities”

This is your problem. You need to express yourself, writing is about getting your point across. Tell the adcom a story about you. It doesn’t have to be new york times style writing. You need to be clear and concise. Don’t say, “I’m not good at writing, so I’m going to make up for it by <random ********=”">. If you know your problem, do something about. You still have time. It took me 2 months to finish my application essay! 2 freaking months!!! I went through numerous editing cycles. started a gazillion essays that ended in the recycling bin. Get your point across->that’s writing. Talk to people, get people to read your essay. I’m sure you have friends who know you well, ask them for advice. What’s so different about you? write that! </random>

I know it’s hard, and it can be frustrating. But if it was easy, everyone would do it. Show that you deserve it.

Almost every college has a freshman seminar which is basically a writing class. You take the class in your first year. My first paper, I received a B. I told myself that english is my second language and all the nepali seniors did poorly in FYS so it was okay. My next paper>>I got a C. That was it for me. I was **** scared of writing. I talked to the professor and thankfully, she let me re-write the paper. I spent 2 weeks writing the 5 page paper, I got 2-3 different people to read it and help me edit it and managed an A in the paper. For my final paper, I spent 2-3 weeks researching and writing it, and working with the professor. It wasn’t easy, but I’m glad I did it.

If you’re gonna say “I’m not good at writing” and let it go, you’re gonna have a bad time in college. Get it up, work hard, and write the freaking essay.

I’m NOT going to apologize for the harsh words. you need to hear this. I’m lucky, I had someone to do the exact same thing to me.

@nepalimussa dead right is sixstringrocker… People whom I know and are attending colleges in US (from Williams and Harvard to South Carolina State)… all of them essentially stress the importance of writing in US college education… you better get your head straight and start writing with some confidence…

Don’t hesitate to let anyone proofread your essay…for style, grammar mistakes, taboos etc…

@sixstringsrocker: those were just the words i needed…am starting my first essay right now!

@jacobswannabe: thank you for being so helpful

guys i apologize for turning this thread a “nepalimussa help forum”, but can you please help me with my college selection.
