First off, GTech's forum has hit 20,000 posts, so that's pretty awesome!

And now onto business. On the GTech Class of 2017 facebook page, there seem to be quite a few girls. This might be just because girls tend to join FB groups more often than guys, but I am impressed at the number of girls on it. Not to mention that the vast majority of girls are very good looking AND have great personalities (I was fearful that there would be very few).

So here's my question. Does anyone have any idea what the male to female ratio is for this year's freshman admitted applicants?

My son went to an admitted students program this week for computer science. He was told that in the college of computing, 16% of freshman in the fall would be girls.

@tma585 - I like it when there’s diversity in a group. My friend group has always consisted of people from all over the world, of different sexual orientations, genders, religions…etc. I’d like for that to translate over into my college.

And of course, I might be interested in some sort of relationship if time presents itself with someone of a certain female persuasion.

@FreelancerMaine: You think that because some of your friends have different sexual orientations, that actually manifests itself as a meaningful form of diversity in a social setting?

Well then, to answer your question, there are more males than females, I think we all know that. But it’s not 100% males, and 0% females. As long as you are social the “ratio” doesn’t mean crap. No need to be so overly analytical and worrisome.

Edit: Can you really tell people’s personalities through Facebook? Hm, unless you actually know them, then… well I got nothing.

@JamesMadison, Yes it does. I respect differences in all people, and as much as we’d like to ignore them, it’s those differences that make people interesting. The smallest things set people apart, but I don’t discriminate, and it’s those things that I look for when making friends. Something that might seem as trivial as sexual orientation to you might impact a person’s personality for the rest of their life.

@tma585 That’s true, I was just hoping it wouldn’t be a 2:1 male-female ratio this year. And you’re right, it is rather difficult to tell personalities from a Facebook page, but I try gleam from them what I can.

The Class of 2017 is rumored to be at about 70% males and 30% females. But there is no official number out yet since it’s only june and Tech has barely finalized the freshman class

I got back from Faset and there were a lot of really attractive girls, ratio or not. And imo, as a male at GT the competition is great in numbers but not in quality (at least physically and interpersonally). Lot of dweebs running around, ha.

^ I’m a mom. I saw a lot pretty girls today at the 2nd FASET. I didn’t see a bunch of dweebs… However it did look like some of the guys were hanging around together instead of talking to the girls…

One key point to remember: Georgia Tech is not in some isolated rural community. It is in Atlanta. The student body is disproportionately male (it is predominately an engineering and science focused university after all), but you are not limited to the coeds on campus. Tech has long standing relationships with Agnes Scott and other women’s schools in the area. When I attended Tech in the late 70’s, the ratio was nine to one, but I still enjoyed my time at Tech. I would love to go to Tech now. The campus is so much nicer, and the ratio is so, so much better!

Its a perfectly worthy question freelancer so don’t let anyone bully you into thinking its not. I looked at the male-female ratio at every school I applied to when I was in your shoes and I find myself looking at the ratio when researching for my son to this day. I think its the achilles heel of tech schools and don’t know of one where the ratio comes anywhere close to approaching 1:1.

At FASET there seemed to be a bevy of attractive girls, but the FB group seems to fit all the stereotypes…I think that GT may have hired girls from UGA and GSU to pose as GT students during orientation to keep us happy.
