Class of 2017, Old SAT vs new

I am in the class of 17 (current junior). I am preparing and plan to take the current SAT in November and then again in January and then i hope to be done with taking standardized tests (other than subjects and APs).

However I have heard some schools will prefer the redesigned sat over the current. VA Tech even said they wont accept the old sat for class of 2017. There are a handful of colleges that have not explicitly stated that they will accept both so i am now worried that they might follow VA tech.

I wasn’t planning on taking the new sat at all since I find it harder for me and it feels like a waste of time to study for a test that is very different from the current.

Does anyone have any more info about this. I kind of wish i focused on the ACT now.

I’m in the same boat as you. I think that I will only take the new SAT because they’ve tried to make it simpler and more acquainted with stuff we’ll actually use, rather than being tested on memorization and obscure vocabulary. The reason you mentioned, like about Virginia tech, is a factor too. Plus, they’ve made the essay optional on the new SAT, which is something to think about I guess. Although I’m not sure if some of the good colleges will want the essay written anyway. A drawback to this, like to mentioned, is that there is no prep we can do for the new test; were essentially guinea pigs to the new system lol.
