@collegebound75 I know so many legacies who got waitlisted or rejected from their schools. My guidance counselor said legacy isn’t as big a deal as it used to be.
After getting waitlisted at 2 schools yesterday, BU is now my top choice too! Gonna be a long night…

@Sunny100 Yeah! First I tried ED at northwestern and got rejected… then rejected from UNC so now I am just hoping I have good news from BU!!
We are definitely hearing back tomorrow?? like for SURE?

No, it’s not definite, but all signs point to yes.

Decision: ACCEPTED

Objective:
• SAT I: 1980,
• ACT: 29 Composite; 32 english, 26 math, 27 science, 30 reading

• Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.85 (Straight As in junior year and so far this year)
• Rank: When I applied I was 2/246 but now I am 3/246 (because my friend took AP Chemistry and I didn’t want to)
• AP (place score in parenthesis): AP Bio- 2 (which sucked!!!)
• IB (place score in parenthesis):
• Senior Year Course Load: Both AP English courses, AP US History, Probability and Statistics, (other electives and gym)

• Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Presidential Service Award (for volunteering), Discuss All Around Student Award. Scholastic Art and Writing Awards (Gold Key for Dramatic script, silver key for writing portfolio, honorable mention for two dramatic scripts and one short story)

• Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): So Many, Public Speaking (3 years President), Chemistry Club (3 years Teasure), Literacy Magazine (3 years Editor/Writer), National Honor Society (2 years Treasure), Art Club Orgiami Project (1 year, we made one thousand paper cranes to represent peace) I also make my school’s morning and afternoon annoucements (2 years which consit of the pledge, sports and school activities)

• Job/Work Experience: Work at my town’s library since this September. And I had this other job at this schooly suppy store for teachers from July 2011- June 2012 (left for a summer program)

• Volunteer/Community service: In this club called Volunteering is Priceless (4 years, over 400 hours volunteering with this group doing everything from feeding homeless to babysitting) Also volunteered at the library (100 hours) before they gave me a job doing the same thing.

• Summer Activities: NYU Tisch Summer high school (6 credits)

• Essays: For the common app essay, I wrote an essay about my biggest fear. It’s really personally so I will not share. My other essay, I wrote about my origami project and how paper cranes brought peace to my school.

• Teacher Recommendation: Really good, one was superb (like stating I am one in a million)
• Counselor Rec: Very good, My counselor loves me
• Additional Rec: None
• Interview: Did not have one.
• Supplementary Material(if any): NOt that I know of. I do not believe I submitted anything else

Other• State (if domestic applicant): New Jersey
• Country (if international applicant):
• School Type: Large public school (not so great reputation)
• Ethnicity:African American (originally from Ghana, moved to US when I was six)
• Gender: Female
• Income Bracket(specify if applied for FA): Family of three, income 44,000 (deff need of fiancial aid for all schools. I refuse to pay for my undergraudate degree)
• Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Well I’m black so I guessed that helped but I refuse to think its the only reason I got in. but I understand that it might have helped them overlook some bad test scores.

Reflection
• Strengths: My ECs are sweet and awards and volunteering and my Rec. Basically everything but my test scores
• Weaknesses: Scores of course

• Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: No idea, this has been the worst and most stressful year of my life so yeah I look back on it now and wonder how I made it through.

Still waiting on Brown, NYU Tisch (for Dramatic Writing) and some other schools but i don’t care anymore because I got Northwestern and BU and all I need.

Was reading your post, feeling great about my chances, and then I saw that you are Black and from Ghana… That’s a key element. I still think I have a good chance, and I feel fairly confident, but being white and Having successful parents really pulls me down.

Eh. I’m Native American and have similar stats to WriterColumbia and I was rejected from Northeastern. Trying to keep my hopes low.

Is northeastern harder to get into than BU? Because I got rejected from northeastern.

Ahaha - The acceptance rate for BU is 15% higher, but I’m still nervous.

I personally think BU is the better school, and I liked it more when I visited. c:

Good luck to everyone! If the notifications come tomorrow, I will be skiing while they are announced.

wait, how do you know that you’ve been accepted? Was it on the portal?

Sam - They called some of the high priority applicants.

Five years ago Northeastern was an easy admit, even a safety school for many. My brother’s friend got into the business school with only 1 honors course (math), a GPA under 3.0 and so-so SATs. But since the job market’s been so tough and NEU has a co-op program that give you job experience, applications have greatly increased and it’s gotten more selective.
@serentic I liked BU much better too. It feels more like a college, the location is nicer, and it has more community spirit.
And I got accepted to NEU but would choose BU over it.

Ohh also, just remembered, I submitted a ten page play. It was about suicide. I emphasis heavily on the fact that I’m a writer. Good luck to you guys.

Last year, the decisions went up in about 30 minutes from now.

Decisions are up.

Rejected, but I knew that was coming and BU was always my last backup and there was an issue with my transcript that rules me out from US colleges, but I got in to far better universities in the UK so it’s okay. That being said, they never asked me for the completely transcripts, so maybe they didn’t care and my essays were just terrible. My BU supplement was a 10 minute job. I suspect it’s the transcripts though because my portal did say they needed something from me, but I didn’t care because I wasn’t considering BU anymore at that point.

For the sake of it. Stats were SAT 2220, SAT 2s: 770, 750 and top 10% of my class.
