pappysimm–to get better results, click on colleges and then on Amherst.

@pappysimm, Don’t worry. Amherst kids would be the group you’d want to hang out with at Smoky Joe’s. Congrats your S got into a great school.

Muf-THANK YOU!! It’s finally done. So far D has been accepted to: College of St Rose, DeSales, SUNY Albany, Flagler, Manhattan, Fordham, Elon, UCSB, UCSD; Rejected at Miami (Fl), Northwester, UCLA, BU, USC. Wait listed at Marist (which surprised us).
So when she gets back and jet lag has worn off, she needs to visit Fordham one more time and go to the accepted students day at Manhattan where she has a scholarship interview also. But I think deep down inside she might do Fordham since some of her friends might be going there. I’ll be happy when I just write out the deposit check.

MomTheChauffer: I’ve been ready to write the deposit check since we last visited Miami in February. So I know how you feel! Miami also sent a car sticker - I will be thrilled when DS is ready to put it on his car! And if it’s Lehigh, that would be great too (although I would be surprised!).

My son’s results: Accepted at UNC-Asheville, Emerson, UNC-Chapel Hill, George Washington, NYU and just yesterday - Georgetown. No rejections or waitlists.

He applied EA to Georgetown and was deferred to RD. He was crushed, and took the deferral as an outright rejection. When he was accepted at UNC-Chapel Hill he pretty much decided that was the school for him. He’s out of town for a long weekend, so when I saw the thick letter from Georgetown in the mailbox I was beside myself. Called him, and opened the letter. Now he doesn’t know what to do! Not a bad dilemma…

Congratulations to all of your kids! This has been quite an experience!

D accepted to Brown, Wesleyan, Davidson, Washu, Clemson, UD, Ursinus, & a few more. Denied at Yale, waitlisted at Vanderbilt. She was offered a full ride as a national scholar at Clemson. Their selection weekend was outstanding! But Brown is her first choice for academics, setting, flexibility, etc. We didn’t get any financial aid (there or most places…curse of the middle class) and it will mean all my earnings (plus some savings each year) will go to the bill for four years. Clemson’s offer is amazing but it just isn’t the same atmosphere, campus, surrounding, etc. Are we crazy even considering turning such a great offer down? d is torn, so are we!

S got admitted to Pitt, Tulane, Indiana, Lehigh, Brandeis (all with merit $$) and Wash U. WL at Emory and rejected from UPenn, Cornell and Harvard. No surprises as I was almost perfect predicting the outcome. I thought he’d get WL at WashU and admitted to Emory but it was reversed.

Final Results:

Accepted: Colby, Bucknell, Lake Forest, Occidental, Willamette, U of Puget Sound, CU-Boulder, & Whitman WL-Davidson, Vanderbilt Rejected: Dartmouth, Carleton. Only surprise was Carleton. Between Colby, Oxy, Lake Forest, and UPS. Awaiting Financial Aid–Bucknell…all final schools gave merit and aid. Good luck to all…

D was accepted to UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCSB (Regents), UCDavis (Regents), UCSD, UCSC, Northwestern, Emory, USC, Univ of Michigan. Rejected at Duke, Penn, Stanford. Wait listed at Harvard, WashU, Vanderbilt. We are in-state California (as you might have guessed) and got no money from anywhere except Michigan (but not enough to bring it down to a UC), so she is deciding between UCLA and UC Berkeley.

DD got into Georgetown, The University of Maryland and the University of Oklahoma. She was waitlisted at George Washington University. She only applied to the four schools. This admissions process has been absolutley exhausting. My emotions have been all over the place. We received our final letter from Georgetown on today. Congratulations to all of the students who got into their schools of choice. For those who did not, things will be fine. You are all amazing and the fact that you did not get into your school of choice means absolutely nothing. If you go to college and do well, you will have many opportunities to be successful. God bless all of you!!!

D was accepted to UVA (her #1), William and Mary, Delaware (honors, $8500 merit), JMU (honors), and Penn State ($2500). Denied outright at UNC-CH. 4.4 W, 4.0 UW, 2050 (670, 670, 710) SAT, 2 sports, varsity athlete, plenty of other ECs. Was sort of surprised by the outright early rejection at UNC, but she already had the UVA “yes” so she was not upset, just wondered what she had done wrong. The answer there is simple: nothing. There are just too many who do it all right and too few spots. Her SAT may have been a little low but on its own does not seem like the reason for the denial. Maybe it was. Who knows- in the end it really doesn’t matter though.

LINYMOM- After this winter I hope he chooses Miami. I think you deserve the warmth of the Florida sun! As for us, I FaceTimed with my daughter while she was in London and she’s leaning towards Fordham. We’re visiting Manhattan next week. So looks like she’s returning to my hometown of “Da Bronx”.

D was accepted to all 4 schools where she applied:

Virginia Tech
Clemson University
University of California San Diego
University of California Santa Barbara

She wanted Engineering but only got into that program in 2 of the 4 schools. We are pretty confused. UCSD accepted her for Engineering, but we just can’t afford to send her there - and don’t feel comfy as a freshman in college (we live on the East Coast)

S is an aspiring writer and was accepted to Iowa, Emory, and U of Montana. He’s leaning Montana (mountain lover, hiker, pretty good program, great merit aid). I’m leaning toward Iowa (amazing facilities, renowned program, some merit aid). Emory looks prohibitively expensive at this point.

IMO, he’d be passing up a lot if he goes with Montana–basically just to live in the mountains. (Admittedly, Iowa has no nearby hiking or even woods.) Oh well, what can you do?

We live in MI. D wants to study nursing. We thought D would apply 5-7 schools. But life threw a curve at us. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. After that, I just want my kids to be near me, so I told her to only apply the top three schools for nursing in MI. Given she was only truly interested in UM, we were extremely happy when she was accepted in Dec. She did everything by herself while I was undergoing treatment. She suddenly matured and took charge of her life.

We did not even know there are usually 2 steps into a nursing school. We just know Michigan is a good school, but didn’t realize it’s one of the top 2 direct nursing schools in the country. She even got scholarship as a in-state student. UM is only 30 minutes from home and 10 minutes from my office. We can’t be happier.

She got in the other two schools, Wayne State and Michigan State with lots more money. But we know she would never go there.

Hi!
Our DD was accepted to La Verne, Seattle University, Ohio University, University of Colorado-Boulder, Northern Arizona University, University of Oregon, CSU Long Beach, CSU Chico (Honors), and SDSU.
After much consideration and a campus visit, she has opted for the Honors Program at Chico. She LOVED the campus, the Honors dorm, the town and the whole vibe of the school. So excited for her! :)

JH8888, it might be nice to have a nursing student in the family for the next few years while you deal with your condition. Best of luck, and congrats to your daughter for being admitted to UM. Excellent school!

DS was accepted at Univ of Oregon, San Francisco State, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, UC Riverside and San Diego State.

He was rejected by UCLA. This was hard for him. UCLA has been his dream school for years but he knows that he didn’t have the grades for the school. It helped that most of his friends that applied there didn’t get in either. They actually took a facebook picture with a sign that said “UCLA Rejects”

He will be attending San Diego State and is getting excited about it. Many of his friends will be attending UC San Diego so that gives him a little sense of security although who knows how much they will actually see each other.

I’m happy that he’s staying in state. My oldest is currently a junior at a school in Pennsylvania!

DS accepted to WUSTL, Johns Hopkins, University of Michigan, UNC Chapel Hill, Emory, Boston College, and University of Florida.

He’s deciding between WUSTL, JHU, and Michigan- still no clear cut favorite, but he is visiting JHU and WUSTL this week.

I’m glad to see that others are still in the state of indecision. Around here it seems like all of the kids have decided and are picking roommates and wearing sweatshirts! I CANNOT wait for D to decide. She was accepted to Villanova, Lafayette, Manhattan, Widener, Rutgers and Drexel and rejected at UPenn all for engineering. All with very nice merit scholarships. She is absolutely torn between Villanova and Lafayette. We visited Lafayette again last week (which is my favorite) and will visit Villanova next week. I told my 15 yo D that she needs to do ED and not put me through this torture again!

Good Luck to everyone else still deciding!
