Class of 2017: What's Your Testing Plan?

So the SAT is changing spring of 2016, which SUCKS for us. What’s your plan? Completely ignoring the SAT, and study for the ACT? Or are you gonna focus on the old SAT? PSAT is going to be in the “new” format next year, so if you want National Merit…

Non Class of 2017 CCers are definitely welcome to input advice/past experience

I’m hoping to take the SAT in Nov/Dec of 2015, because writing is one of my strongest subjects and I really would not like to lose out on that score in my exam, so yes I plan on taking the “old” SAT.

I am worried about getting National Merit on the PSAT though, simply because this year I was quite a bit shy of what it would have had to be (I got a 173), but hopefully by studying in the fall for my Nov/Dec SAT it will also help me for the PSAT.

What about SAT Subject tests? Any plans? @PAgirl99

That will suck for us! Hopefully it will be easier!

So I’m planning to take the ACT twice and 3 SAT subject tests next school year… Too much?

I’m taking the US History Subject Test in June along with the ACT; in the fall, I’ll take the current SAT if I’m not happy with my ACT score.

Are you taking honors/AP US History now?

I’m taking the old SAT in October, and I’ll take the December one if that doesn’t work out. If that doesn’t work, although I’m pretty confident that it will, I will switch over to ACT. There is no way I am letting CB treat me as a guinea pig!!

As far as Subject Tests go, I’ll most likely take Math II in March, and Lit/Physics/Math II retake if needed in June. I wouldn’t advise anyone to go with the new SAT, since there’s hardly anything known about it AND writing, the easiest section to train and get an 800 on, will be gone! D:

Sounds like a good plan @LucidGman Good luck

D will study this summer for the new PSAT. If she makes NM she will have to take the new SAT. If not, then just ACT maybe Winter and Spring.
SAT Math II this June, SAT Physics next June.

My daughter will take the old SAT. Assuming she does well, she may or may not bother with the ACT or she might take it to see which she prefers.

And I guess this summer is going to be critical for studying for all of us 17ers right?

My Class of 17 son will take the SAT this June. Then we’ll figure out what the testing plan is for junior year. He’d like to avoid being a guinea pig for the new SAT, and I don’t think the shorter time limits for the ACT would work well for him. He will study for the new PSAT over the summer.

At least he has 2 SAT Subject tests out of the way. He make take another of those if he tries the practice test for Chemistry and does well on that. But, that limits the available dates for SAT tests, and Saturdays always seem to fill up with ECs.

SAT II Bio in June
SAT in fall/winter 2-3x until I get the score I want since I don’t want to take the new one
SAT II Math 2 and Chem tests at the end of next year

SAT in June
study for current SAT based on how I did and new PSAT in the summer
SAT in early fall; if I don’t improve that much I’ll take it in the winter too
SAT II for Chem, Math II, and possibly History in winter/spring of next year

I feel comfortable with the current SAT so I don’t want to change. The new SAT practice problems were really confusing for me so I really don’t want to have to take it.

I took the US History subject test last month, and I’ll take another one (Lit probably) at some point next year. I’m taking the old SAT this fall and then the new one in the spring. If I do well on the old SAT I won’t worry about the ACT, but otherwise I’ll probably take it at some point next year too.

Yep, taking the old SAT this year as well, doing some subject tests (Lit and Math II probably). I feel really unprepared compared to my friends in prep classes!

Our strategy has changed a bit - DD will take ACT first, in September. If she scores really highly, she probably won’t bother with the SAT, but she’ll probably prep a bit for the PSAT in October.

If she’s not 100% happy with her ACT score from Sept., she’ll take the (old) SAT in November or December. She’s also taking 2 SAT subject tests this June - World History and Chemistry.

Because of the changes in the SAT our daughter decided to take the SAT during her sophomore year. She sat for the May SAT and exceeded all our expectations by achieving a 2340 (770 CR; 780 Math; 790 Writing) We are so done with the SAT but she still has one more SAT2 to sit for. She took SAT2 Bio at the end of 9th grade and scored 720.

Wow a 2340! @uppereastsider Congrats
