School Type: highly ranked, competitive public school
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: middle
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none, first to go to college in america?

Reflection
Strengths: essay, volunteer hours, recs, writing
Weaknesses: crit reading, math, not a lot of extra currics, could’ve taken harder classes, could’ve had a higher GPA
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: MY ESSAYS, my teacher recs, the fact that I applied to the nursing school, my high school maybe because it’s known to have tougher academics, I showed interest
Where else you are applying or have already applied: UMASS (waiting for decision), northeastern (deferred) & western, Gerogetown, UCLA, Uconn, BU, UNC, etc.
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: I honestly think my essay played a huge role here, because my GPA & SAT score put me slightly below the curve on my school’s naviance. Make your essay as sincere as possible, I wrote most of mine in one sitting, and it really did feel effortless because it was like pouring your thoughts onto the computer screen. The process might be different for you, but everyone on this site is so smart, good luck!

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Good essays
Where else you are applying or have already applied:
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Don’t try to create a false image of yourself in your essay. Be yourself. Don’t be afraid to be nerdy/ whatever- do what you need to do to show colleges who YOU are.

Decision: Accepted A&S Honors Program!

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2200 (760 W, 690 M, 750 CR)
[] ACT: 34
[] SAT II: 730 Lit, 710 US
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0 UW, 4.14 W (though it’s going to go up a lot this year, I’m taking only AP classes)
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 5/315
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): Euro (4), Lang (5), Lit (5), US (5)
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): NA
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Spanish, AP Stats, AP Calc BC, AP Physics, AP Comp Gov (I’m not taking an English class this year because I took all of them as of last year  )
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Girl Scout Gold and Silver awards (I think this is what cinched it for me), Scholastic Silver Keys (writing), AMC 10 school winner, first place in a Northwest-wide creative writing competition.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[li] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): 4 years varsity water polo (team second in state twice, I was first team all conference and first team all state), 4 years club water polo, 2 years varsity swimming, 2 years varsity ultimate frisbee, 12 years of Girl Scouts, National Honor Society (Executive Council member), Spanish honor society, creative writing club (founder and president)[/li][] Job/Work Experience: Lifeguarding since this past summer
[] Volunteer/Community service: GIRL SCOUTS (stay in scouts, kids. So worth it), NHS, weekly peer tutoring (I’m in charge of the program), and then I’m on the student advisory council for a local charitable organization (there are about ten of us from a pretty big region).
[] Summer Activities: Iowa Young Writers’ Studio.
[] Essays: 10/10. My college counselor told me my common app essay was amazing, and she sees a lot of them, so I was quite satisfied. I wrote my supplement about spreading literacy and education to girls in underdeveloped countries, combining my passions for reading, language, travel, and service.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Didn’t read, but two of the best teachers I’ve ever had. I assume they were awesome.
[] Counselor Rec: Again, I didn’t read it, but my counselor is amazing, and she really tried to write to my character as an upstanding student/person

[] Strengths: GPA, ACT, maybe essays?

[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think it was the Girl Scouts/writing supplement. I really think I showed them that I’m really involved with and interested in helping people. As a Jesuit school, I assume that’s what they’re looking for, and why some applicants with lower stats are getting in, and others with higher stats are not.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted at: University of Oregon Honors College, Santa Clara, Tulane, and Colorado College. Applied RD to a few more reach schools.

Reflection
Strengths: idk, i don’t think i had strengths and weaknesses really…everything seems OK
Weaknesses:
Why you think you were accepted: Even though you might think my GPA is low for BC it’s not because my school is really really really really hard and BC knows it. I have lots of genuine ECs and community service things
Where else you are applying or have already applied: Accepted to Fordham; applied to University of Notre Dame but I withdrew my application after hearing from BC
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: BC really takes into consider “fit”. So don’t be so sad if u don’t get in because you probably weren’t a good fit. theres a better college out there for you
