Class of 2018 Decisions

I applied SCEA September 18th and my application was fully processed by Gibson the first week of Oct. I’m a nervous wreck and am praying that I’ll hear back soon!

Wow. It’s been a year since many of us were going through this same thing!!! I was ExeterMama, S and I fell in love with NOLA and Tulane. I remember both of us religiously checking Gibson, he from France and me from Maine.

Now I’m GreenWaveMama and S is a Freshman loving life in NOLA. Time flies!

Accepted!!! And so happy!!

Congrats user2018 and texasteen! As greenwavemama said, so many of us were going through the same thing a year ago. Happy to say, D1 is loving life at Tulane. D2 is hitting the submit button on her app this week and we will be begin
checking her Gibson account obsessively!

For reference- I submitted my app around Sept. 22 and showed complete around the end of September and just got accepted today!

I have to say, I find the number of siblings that are at least considering attending Tulane with their older brother/sister amazing. I think that says a lot about Tulane, although to be fair I have no idea how much this happens at others schools. But when talking to students that do have someone at another school, their usual reaction is “no way”. In any case, it is a really nice thing to see.

Did you get an email telling you to check Gibson or anything like that? I must say I am a bit jealous that you’ve already heard back. I’m from Dallas and if I get in I definitely plan on attending!

No email, you just have to check periodically. There is a snail mail letter shortly after the Gibson update.

If I am applying to tulane scea and have 3 people that went to the university in my immediate family, 27 on act 11 out of 12 on writing and 28 combine english and writing what is my chance of getting accepted??

No one can answer that Rachel. Even if there was a chance we could, you leave out significant information. What is your unweighted GPA? How challenging was your class schedule? What kind of EC’s do you have? But even with that, there are factors we cannot be aware of, nor can we know how Tulane admissions will judge your overall application.

What we can tell you is that applying SCEA is a plus, and having Tulane history in your family is as well, although hard to say how much of one. You know from looking at the stats that a 27 is low for Tulane, but certainly there are people that get admitted with that score, even leaving out people that might get admission preference for other reasons such as star athletes. All you can do is put in your app, do as good a job as you can on the two statements Tulane asks for, and of course you could try retaking the ACT or try the SAT. I am assuming you have visited the campus since you have family ties, and hopefully you attended or are attending a local Tulane admissions function. These are the things that could increase your chances.

RE: the sibling comments
I currently have two boys attending, the second a current freshman. They have really enjoyed being there together and while they spend a fair amount of time together, they each seem to be doing their own thing too. Warms a mother’s heart! :)

My waded gpa is a 3.8 and I am in accelerated, honors and ap classes throughout my high school years. I definitley show that I am challenging myself acidemically. What do you think? Do I have a good shot at getting in SCEA, deffered or full out rejected? I really dont know what to think

Hi Rachel. You almost certainly won’t get rejected in this round. In the past, at least, Tulane has tended to defer those EA and SCEA applicants that they are not sure about.

There really is nothing for you to think. With one exception, you can only wait (I assume your application is already in) and see what Tulane thinks. Anything else is speculation and not very useful, and certainly has no bearing on the outcome. I can only tell you that you do have a shot, you don’t appear to me to be an outright no. It seems like a reach, but as I said earlier, there are several other factors involved and only someone that can see your record in its totality can make a judgement. That’s the most anyone can say, I think.

The exception is if you haven’t visited campus yet or attended a local event, if there is one still coming to your area. A lot of them have already happened. If you have visited campus but it was with your family and you didn’t contact admissions to let them know this, you could send an email to your admissions counselor and let them know about that. Be very careful in checking your email though. I see several errors in your posting above, which could be because you are typing on a phone or something. But you have to make sure that communications to admissions are error free.

The letter (in a huge envelope) arrived in Texas today. Gibson posted S’s acceptance on Friday.

How much does intended major play a role in admission decisions? I’m assuming it’s more competitive for students applying for a scientific or engineering major rather than the humanities? Just in talking to the VP of Admissions where I work, Math SAT’s don’t factor in as much for non-technical majors as the verbal and writing. You can still be admitted if your math is less than stellar and you are applying for social sciences, humanities or art programs.

My son was notified today online that he was accepted. His application was complete about three weeks ago.

I applied as a chemistry major

@rachelweiner22 After spending a lot of time at Tulane during this whole application process I’ve figured out that an important factor that admissions looks at is how badly you want to go to school there and the how likely it is that you would attend if accepted. Tulane looks at your resume, test scores, and gpa, but I think another important factor is your interest level. Make sure you show you’re interested!

Have any EA applicants heard yet or just SCEA?

My daughter’s status showed as accepted when it was checked this morning. She applied EA. Hopefully there will be a merit scholarship offer included when the letter arrives.
