Class of 2018 Discussion!

Anyone know when we might hear about any merit $$ from Tyler? Also - who’s going to 3/23 Accepted Students Day?

merit aid for Temple comes with acceptance letter. not sure about any Tyler specific scholarship on when that migh come. well on our end, I just sent in enrollment deposit  housing deposit will be next!

Decision: Accepted
Major: Pre-Pharmacy track
GPA: 4.0 both weighted and unweighted
SAT: 1620/2400 (Very low, I know. But I only too them once and I have extreme test anxiety.)
M:500
R:600
W: 520

Welcome and congrats!! and regardless of test scores, you have a great GPA so don’t lose sight of that! sounds like the test scores are an underestimate of your abilites

Not sure about Temple yet, but its one of the top of my list.
Decision: Accepted (Honors College & Presidents Scholar)
ACT: 33
SAT: 2170
GPA: N/A

I figured this forum might actually be faster than getting off hold with the admissions office this time of year  When calculating GPA for scholarships I understand that Temple used core academic plus foreign language only. Does anyone know if that is weighted or unweighted?

Paid deposit this afternoon! Any other Tyler students out there?

Decision: Accepted
Major: Neuroscience (College of Science and tech.)
Would want to change to Bioengineering though!
UW GPA/W GPA: 3.95/4.95 (Highschool in Europe- done high school in three different countries!)
SAT 2 Math: 700 Bio: 660
SAT 1: 1810 (it’s not that good… Took it once and I barely had any prep  )

I currently live on my own in Europe(Netherlands), and my family lives in Pennsylvania.
Did get accepted to the top honors college here, but Temple seems much more intriguing to go to!
Just cant wait to move in the summer :D

welcome arrojie!! and saintfan, sorry on slow response but I don’t know answer to your question

Ha! I emailed directly and haven’t gotten a response there either, so you you still win! ;)

emailing is very slow. I’ve tried that and I’ve had better luck calling. what has happened is student who picks up phone does not know answer so they put me on hold for admissions officer/counselor. i’ve been on hold awhile but counselors are very helpful once they pick up phone. I figure they are busy and that’s why there is a wait.

I went through the phone tree twice, cut off once then on hold forever the 2nd time, but did finally speak to a very nice gentleman who was able to answer my question definitively. He said that for the automatic freshman merit scholarships GPA is calculated using math, science, social studies, English and foreign language and classes that are honors, AP or IB are weighted. woot woot!!! That weighting could be worth an extra 5k per year! or more . . .

Yeah, tbh the worst part of Temple is that some departments are a bit disorganized/overwhelmed, especially during busy seasons. Once you get through they generally know their stuff, but it can be a pain to be put on hold or have to wait.

Yep - once I made it thought he was knowledgable and friendly! Of course this is exactly the wrong time to be asking questions about next year’s cycle and I totally recognize that :">
