[li] Where else you are applying or have already applied: UGA EA (accepted), GT[/li][/ul]General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: If you didn’t get in, don’t fret. They can’t take everybody who is qualified. I bet they had hundreds of competitive and qualified applicants and they can only take so many. Good luck to everyone to whatever college the end up going to and hopefully they find the right place for them.

congratulations, AnchorDown and hobbithopeful. You’re both very deserving. And I hope you had a chance to see the opening last night. S is seeing it tonight. It looks very good.

Hobbit, what major did you apply to?

Applied as a chemistry major.

Decision: Accepted EDI

Objective:

ACT: 33 single sitting 34 superscore (32 Reading, 33 (34 on second take) English/writing, 35 science, 33 math)

IB (place score in parenthesis):
Senior Year Course Load: 4 AP classes (Art History, Enviro, AP Lit, Economics (Micro/Macro)
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.):
Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Some leadership positions within Model UN, statewide model congress type extracurriculars, intern for local congressman, speech & debate, FBLA, etc. Quite a few awards in these programs
Job/Work Experience: Intern for congressman over the summer
Volunteer/Community service:
Summer Activities: Attended a national conference (2 years, had a minor leadership position my second year) with the best participants of statewide “mock congress” type conferences from every state. Awesome experience for me.
Essays: Pretty unique – I thought my common app essay was risky but the people who read it seemed to like it/find it amusing and unique
Teacher Recommendation: Really stellar, one of my teachers was the advisor for several clubs I had leadership positions in along with my AP Gov Pol teacher, said some awesome things about me (although i’m not exactly sure what). I recall him telling me “this letter of recommendation will get you in anywhere!”. My advice: don’t suck up to teachers, just make sure they know you well as a person and you are strategic about your application
Counselor Rec: Pretty good! I think she liked me, I did a lot of things for Student Council/the school even though I wasn’t really a member of these clubs and didn’t put them on my app
Additional Rec:
Interview: I thought it went pretty poorly but I suppose not!
Other
State (if domestic applicant): NJ
Country (if international applicant):
Intended major(s): Poli Sci, Economics
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White/Asian
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: $100,000+ with a dramatic shift down after dad’s unemployment
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Nothing really
Reflection: GPA was my biggest weakness, but I made up for it with a general upward trend, sharp upward trend in course rigor, good test scores, and any class I did poorly in I would take the next level and do much better (C+ in precalc, A+ in calc the next year)
Strengths:
Weaknesses:
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I was surprised myself :))
General Comments: Get off CollegeConfidential and do more things in the real world. Don’t do things just for college, pursue your interests and be outgoing/friendly. Think about comparative advantage- don’t waste your time and pursue/develop your natural talents.
