@midwestblues same boat…online changed to step 5 but not notification on anything related to merit aid. It has only been a couple days though, so maybe wait for a while longer?

My D was accepted last Friday or Saturday. I was out of town when this happened and she’s out of town now, so I don’t know how she found out. I don’t know if it was an email with an attachment or something she got from my roc. I have an electronic copy of the award letter however. We have no hard copy that I know of. The header of the document says “FAOnline” and then below that “Student Aid Online.” Below that is a button bar with buttons such as “Apply Online,” and one of the buttons says, “Your Awards.” Evidently, this is this button that you click to get the “Awards” statement. The statement lists COA and then lists merit and grant awards, work study and loans. I hope this helps some of you.

SAT II: 730 Math II, 750 World History

Senior Year Course Load: all AP core classes + advanced art class
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): AP Scholar & National Merit Commended, various school awards

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): a crap load haha student government, board for 4 service clubs (I’m big on philanthropy), fine arts/performing arts. more details in my previous chance threads
Job/Work Experience: n/a
Volunteer/Community service: volunteer at a retirement home and did a variety of stuff there
Summer Activities: see above + some career-oriented/leadership summer programs
Essays: I thought my CA essay was risky (had no idea how an admissions committee would evaluate it) and I edited another college’s “Why us?” supplement for UR. Evidently both were good enough thankfully.
Teacher Recommendation: A+ they both really like me
Counselor Rec: Don’t like my counselor but from what I know they wrote a good one
Additional Rec: my friend wrote me a peer rec - it was really sweet. I was pleasantly surprised by the little details they picked up on that I never thought anyone noticed.
Interview: DIDN’T INTERVIEW. Mostly due to difficulties with the UR website. So FYI though the interview’s highly recommended you can still get in without it. We’ll have to see how it affects merit aid though.**

Other:
State (if domestic applicant): CA
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: competitive public
Ethnicity: didn’t state
Gender: F
Income Bracket: upper-middle class
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none

Reflection:
Strengths: stats in school’s upper ranges, good recs, leadership, and I’m a pretty good writer.
Weaknesses: I ventured into the terrifying territory of the “laundry list” of activities. I didn’t plan my way to the top in high school - I just did whatever I wanted to and I’ve always enjoyed testing my skills in a variety of different disciplines. It’s definitely gonna hurt me for the top 10/20 schools, but what’s done is done and I’ve gained a lot from my activities character-wise so I guess no regrets.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: see strengths above
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: This is my first official acceptance.
General Comments:
Rochester’s one of my safeties so I’m not all that surprised but still quite happy to be accepted. I received a personalized letter in the mail which noted my activities and personal qualities and was hand-signed. My only complaint is that I wish UR was closer to New York, and not so damn cold. Congrats to everyone else who made it!

**Question answered! I just received notification that I’ve been awarded UR’s $12,000 Dean’s Scholarship for overall excellence. Didn’t interview. However if you’re aiming for UR’s full merit scholarships I’d probably interview and apply under priority review - which I didn’t even know existed until I already turned in my app. Whoops!

Hi guys. Has anyone else still not heard? I haven’t heard and I’m starting to get worried that it means I’m not going to be successfull!

My friend got rejected on the 17th

Still haven’t found out yet and also getting anxious…also is it true rejections come out by email instead of mail?

My S is still waiting…He contacted admissions and was told to be patient (by a student intern )- that letters are mailed in batches once a week. It is a little bit of a turn off for me. Why not post on line and notify everyone at the same time!

Still waiting here as well, and it’s more than a “little bit of a turn off.” It has really left a very negative impression of the school, how they handle things, and how they consider the effect of their actions on students. Really, URoc? This is the best you can do? Your competition manages to let all applicants know the results at the same time, efficiently, on line or via email. This trickling out is unimpressive. It makes one wonder if you also review the applicants in batches, so that a stellar applicant who is viewed late in the game, by chance, might just lose out? Not well done at all.

I’m still waiting but on the contrary its not a turn off. Instead of notifying all applicats on say the 27th like most other colleges they can notify half or more applicants before hand. No college-and in this case no committe-can view every application at the exact same time. You just have to deal with the luck of the draw if you the first applicant of the year the committe gets and they dont want to accept the first one or if your the last and there is no space left. That is just how things work. Anyways in what way does how the admissions offices release decisions affect anything else about the college?

I agree with tararuns! At this point, it is a turn off. It makes me ( as a parent )question how UROC treats students once they are enrolled. UROC should get its’ act together and notify student on-line or send out all letters at once.

My daughter has not heard yet either. I’m not that anxious, but I think the mass email approach is better.

I called the UofR admissions office yesterday. My S is also waiting on the results. He had applied RD. They said decision was ready by would be notified by April 1.

[/ul][ b]General Comments:** this is upsetting because this is my first regular decision I’ve received. I was not prepared to suddenly find a rejection email in my inbox. I really liked rochester, despite being unlike any of my other schools. However, I suppose this will make my final selection easier by having less contenders. Not to mention Rochester was my furthest school so that would’ve been hard anyway.
