I don’t mean to sound disrespectful at all, and I am happy for everyone who has gotten in. But compared to some people, I feel like I have better stars and my EC are strong - I interned at a lab etc. my major wasn’t even competitive-biochem. And my essays were well. Still very confused. Plan on falling them Tomm.

@Jman1234 how do you think I should talk to them without coming off as “omg how was I not accepted?”

So, let’s compare and it may help you.

My son had very few concrete EC’s. No clubs. No sports. No work. He did volunteer a 100 hours which is a state requirement for in-state subsidy. His composite ACT was a 29 with a 31 (30.5) superscore (29/32/31/30). Engineering. 3.65/5.3 (20 honors and AP). With all that said - his grades and scores got him in. I can contribute it to nothing else except maybe essays but even those were just ok.

Difference: 2 pts on superscore and ?? straight composite and more AP/Honors classes if we are talking apples to apples BUT you also had more EC’s, legacy and possibly a less competitive major.

Many others above had 26-27 ACT scores and are in also. Same as you - no disrespect to them - just using this thread for its purpose to understand why or why not.

Deferral is not rejection (there is a difference) so you are still in running for March but:
I would:

 1. Check to make sure all pertinent ACT/SAT grades show up on your application status page.
 2. Check all other information you can check on line and verify that it is correct.
 3. I would call the local recruiter assistance person. Get their advice.
4. After others are done I would then call admissions and just ask politely to check key information that is used during admissions process to make sure nothing is obviously incorrect, follow any instructions from recruiter and ask about process, next steps, etc. Try hard not to sound desperate but just polite but concerned. I can’t tell you whether to use this information or not - hard to say.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes. Keep your head up and consider other options as well. Your grades and scores will get you into MANY schools.

I should also mention that for high school I’ve gone to an early college and I will be graduating high school with my associates degree and I have done well in my college classes. Which probably helped me out a lot with getting accepted.

I have seen some strong students deferred this year

@chuck222‌
Hey fellow early college student. I see a few of us here.
that’s my experience too. I can’t figure out why they deferred a couple of my classmates. Maybe NCSU is trying to assert their dominance lmao. Or admission officers fell asleep on the job.
