I’m so sorry @jessica123merlin. That doesn’t sound right. Your stats are as good as, or better than, some of the others mentioned here.

Deferred 3.8 gpa 2100 sat…

@Emotup, your stats are great, as I also said to @jessica123merlin. Did you both visit the school and interview? If you want to remain on the wait list and have Skidmore consider you in the regular round, definitely let the school know of your continued interest. Come visit and interview if you haven’t, keep your grades up, send along any honors and achievements you want them to know about. I know someone who got off Vassar’s wait list in just this way last year. Best of luck!

@lauriejgs I did an alumni interview which I thought went very well. I hope it didn’t play a big factor, but i did send in one of my SAT 2’s, which i did average on. I will be taking the SAT’s again and hoping for the best!

@jessica123merlin, keep the faith. Over the years, Skidmore has plucked students off the waitlist, sometimes more than a few.

I’m at a loss to understand the reasons. The letter is pretty generic. Very sad.

@Emotup, I really am sorry. Your stats look great. How was your essay? Did you go up for an interview? Did you have competition at your school from many other applicants? Let them know they’re still your number-one choice. Keep the grades up, even higher if you can. A deferral is NOT a rejection!!! Check out Skidmore’s Common Data Set–you’ll see that they’ve definitely taken kids off the wait list. But maybe you’ll get good news in March–fingers crossed for you!

Wait were any of you deferred students international? Also were any applicants asking for significant amount of aid? It seems like well qualified students at any college who don’t get in usually meet those criteria. I’m strongly considering ED2. I’m a US student from Texas but I do have an EFC of zero. I think my stats are qualified to have a good chance but it’s a bit discouraging seeing some qualified students deferred and plus ED2 is more competitive than ED1.

@Jmbakh I’d go for it if Skids is your first choice. While it is true that EDII can be more competitive, it’s also true that it will still give you that “I’m committing to you” leg up. Also, something interesting I’ve found about Skids admissions from other people I’ve been talking to, is that Skidmore seems to be a bit of an Art school masquerading as a liberal arts college. A lot of people who I’ve talked to who weren’t necessarily the most qualified, got in by demonstrating a true passion for the arts in some way. While there application is by no means portfolio or supplement based, I think they really look for that artistic spark in their students and want you to demonstrate it.

@BeansAndJam thanks for the reply! I definitely think Skidmore would be a good fit. There’s only a few other schools on my list that appear to have a somewhat similar culture and I’ve come to the conclusion they are too selective to have a reasonable shot at. I really like their arts and creativity emphasis but that definitely isn’t my strongest point. I’ll definitely keep that in mind though.
