[ *] Volunteer/Community service: I have over 620 of volunteer derive at Zoo Atlanta working in Animal Husbandry and diet preparation. I also volunteer at the Georgia Aquarium in the public relations department.
[ *] Summer Activities: The summer before sophomore year I studied abroad in the Galapagos Islands on a full scholarships to learn about the native culture and fauna. The summer before junior year I studied freshwater ecology at the University of Georgia Odum School of Ecology. The summer before senior year I participated in a paid internship at the University College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences researching the antagonistic relationship between selenium and FGD gypsum in plant uptake. I also studied abroad in china for three weeks before school on a ambassadors scholarship I won to study the language and culture.
[ *] Essays: Common App was pretty good in my opinion; talked about how I overcame being at the bottom of my of my class in remedial classes to graduating as number one in my school talking the most rigorous courses possible despite my many flaws including my speech impairment (9/10). Why Davidson was REALLY risky and bold as I talked about how even though my dad disapproved of it because it wasn’t an Ivy League I still chose to apply (10/10). Extracurricular was really creative, I talked about all the fun science topics we discuss in my STEM Ambassadors program (8/10). Additional information section I discussed I started our schools Science Olympiad Team (9/10).
[ *] Teacher Recommendation: Recommendation 1- My AP Lit. teacher wrote this and she made me feel like I was the saved the world from damnation; it made me cry (10/10). Recommendation 2 - Honors Tenth Grade Lit. teacher who I had a really close and funny relationship with both inside and outside of class (9/10). Recommendation 3 - AP Biology Teacher wrote this one and she adores me as she helped me get some internships, win science fair awards, start science Olympiad, and I got the highest score on her AP exam (8/10). Other Recommender 1 - My research mentor wrote this and he made it seem like I was above them but was still good. Other Recommender 2 - My principal wrote this and it was pretty generic (7/10). Peer Recommender - Had friend from another school who I’ve known for two years right this; she told me she made it really good, so I mean she did just get into Harvard (9/10).

[ *] Weaknesses: Most certainly test scores. I though they would really reject me for those abysmal scores.
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I was probably accepted for my strengths listed above and demonstrated interest. Schools like this really care about level of interest as I called emailed, and was accepted into the Multicultural Visitation Program, which I hear is a big indicator of admissions.

Talk with you admissions counselor and make sure they remember you in a good way again schools this small want a good retention rate so they want people they know are going to come and thrive so really demonstrate that in your application.
