Class of 2019 (From Nepal)

@cauldroncastle‌ Yup I hope that too. Anyways best of luck for your exams.

@sarbaraj101 haha, yup! I’ve been good so far. Thank you for asking.
Every time I come to this site, it takes me back to those good(little stressful) old days when we were all applying to colleges. And now I see the same in college among my peers applying for grad schools. Besides, what have you been upto? Grad school is what you’re up for too? It’s interesting how cc members disperse across the US after admission and the cc discussions (heated/cool/useful, all kinds) just become a thread of the past. Or maybe, I am just unaware of a forum that keeps dispersed Nepalese “anonymously” in contact.

@sarbaraj101‌ @trinitian‌ Grad school? That means you are good few years older than us. Which colleges are you studying right now?

@cauldroncastle‌ I go to LehighU.

Can anyone help me?
HSEB SCORE-85.6
TOEFL-95
SAT- around 1800 (test is in nov)
ECAs- they are quite good
Intended major- engineering
And i cannot afford more than $5000 per year.
Please suggest me some colleges/universities. (Okish will work bt i need good aid)

You’ve got very good HSEB score. Work hard, like take a practice test each day until SAT day, and make sure you score higher, around 2000. Then, get a good essay out. You’ll have a shot at top schools. Imo, look into these schools:

 1. Lafayette College
 2. Lehigh University
 3. Rollins College (3+2 engineering)
 4. Sewanee (3+2 w/ Columbia)
 5. Union College
 6. Harvey Mudd College
 7. Trinity College
 8. Swarthmore College

Make sure you search for safeties, and apply to a good number of them.

Thanks for the list.
What sort of aids does UNO offers??

Every year 100 student receive full aid in UNO including fooding accomodation and others. This is the prestigious scholarship available there in UNO.You just nedd to have composite SAT score of 1350.Applying early with the SAT score benefits anyone with that scholarship.

Very happy,
Got SAT online course without a penny…

Could anybody suggest me some good colleges(including safeties)?
HSEB Aggregate score-- 85 (88+82) with extra maths in 12
TOEFL- 112
SAT- Haven’t got my score but hoping for a 2200+.
Subject Tests-- Taking In Nov, but hoping for 750+ each.
Intended major-- Computer Science
And the most worrisome thing for me so far is that I don’t think I have a very good essay. Any tips?
Can pay 7-8k$ max…

@DoNJoN‌ How did you get it?

@cauldroncastle …Bro apply where ever you want…you will get in

Guys I have been looking at some colleges and have come up with a small list:
Ohio Wesleyan University
Earlham college
University of Rochester (This one will be difficult)

I have 2 A and 3 B (Science)
SAT : expecting around 1800 in Oct 11 but have been preparing for a 2000+ in Nov 8
Subject tests: Not given yet but 700+ (I am thinking)
Can pay around 10k$
Essay: Haven’t started working yet
ECA and volunteering: Not extraordinary but got some decent ones.
I am not aiming for those ivies or very selective ones but with my stats can you guys suggest some decent colleges with preferably full tuition aid.
Thank you!

@hope1097‌

You say you can pay around $10k. OWU explicitly mentions the maximum award they can offer is full tuition, and that you must be able to provide at least $19k a year to make up the difference. See for yourself.

@sixstringsrocker‌
I have consulted with OWU admissions staff and they stated that I have to show the amount for the first year (during time of admission) which I can do. I am going to study there if I am provided sufficient aid. My problem would be only living expenses which I will be able to cover with help from some relatives in the USA.

Any State/Public universities which award full tuition waiver (for SAT score around 1250, great GPA, Good ECAs)??

Do people who apply to Bates submit usually their SAT Scores? I am sure they do not recognize HSEB so would the SAT account for more? And is 1800 an alrightish score to be sent?

I’ve got splendid SAT scores, but I’m not sure I’ll get into any good colleges. They look at the whole package, not only the scores. So, you’ve got plenty of chances, but I’d suggest not to send the SAT score to Bates as it is a test optional college.

@skeleton394 I think the majority of them do. Or at least, the majority of admitted students have (>60%). Because Bates looks at the complete package, SAT scores aren’t going to define your application as a whole. But, in my opinion, decent SAT scores will at least give the admission officers an additional perspective. That being said, I don’t think 1800 is competitive enough for Bates. In the end, it’s your call.

Also, I think Bates gets a decent number of applicants from Nepal each year. They should be able to evaluate your HSEB scores no problem. Good luck.

Thanks you guys
