Class of 2019 RD Discussion Thread

@hagzzz OK, I officially give up trying to make sense out of all of this! Can it really be so random?

@hagzzz - maybe we’ll meet up at UCLA.

@ackack UCLA is full pay for me :frowning:

Likewise. Oh well.

@ackack The randomness is real.

Did anyone’s financial aid award remotely resemble the VU net price calculator?

@swimmom2020 like <1% error for me

The admissions officers probably just throw darts blindfolded at a wall full of applications whose test scores, GPA, etc. are astronomically high, see where the darts land, and accept those students. It seems as if Vanderbilt wants to be the new Ivy with its selectivity dropping below ten percent and with the statistics of this year’s admitted students rising even more than previous years.

@hagzzz Holy smokes! Well, daughter’s on the wait list so I’m not giving up hope.

Embrace the Random! We will all survive.

Waitlisted. 3.98 UW. 2250 SAT. International applicant. I was also waitlisted at WUSTL, but got huge scholarship from Emory. Feeling so down right now :frowning:

Getting in to any one of UCLA, WUSTL, Vandy, Emory, others = victory. Spending anytime perusing any of these threads makes that manifest. Very few getting all of these. Lots getting school X but not school Y. No rhyme or reason to any of it. So, @juliaY, @hagzzz, I think we just feel pretty awesome about what we have accomplished and let the rest go.

Presidential Scholar to USC, Accepted to UCLA, got into several other schools, 2160 SAT, great essays and recs, 4.4 GPA (Best at my school is 4.6) and I got… Waitlisted. Yay.

@ackack I did not visit, interview, contact their office or fill out the merit scholarship app. I had pretty much 0 interest shown and got in. It isn’t even that I have stellar stats. I’m amazed that I got in. I think it really does come down to the essays, who reads your application and a sheer amount of luck.

Waitlisted coolio

Hey guys, current first year here! Congrats to all of you that got in, and I want to give hope to the wait listed students! I was pulled off the wait list last summer just as I was planning to attend my local technical college, because I couldn’t afford the only other school who ended up accepting me. I had an application filled out and everything!

Definitely make sure to follow up on every chance Vandy gives you to say that you’re still interested ASAP! Also, if you interviewed and it went well (especially if you emailed afterwards to thank your interviewer for his/her time, which I certainly hope everyone did), definitely let them know you’re decision! I won’t say that my interviewer having friends in admissions helped, as I don’t really know, but she did put in an extra word in my favor, and here I am; take that for what you will.

As for the rejected students, definitely don’t take it to heart! The Vanderbilt community is missing out on you, not the other way around!

34 ACT, 4.5 weighted GPA, and was waitlisted. I really thought I’d get in. :’( Can’t help but feel a little salty. Also waitlisted at WUSTL, UChicago, and Case Western. Starting to worry about getting into college…

Wait listed 1480/2280 SAT 740 Bio 730 Math 34ACT 3.9 UW school does not rank. Hispanic

@susieanne thanks for your words of encouragement re the wait list. Not giving up hope for my daughter. Good advice, too!

After reading this thread and the result thread, I am incredibly humbled to be accepted.
Like dang, 9.5% acceptance rate and middle 50 for test scores being 750-800 and 33-35.
I would have never imagined Vandy to be this hard to get into.
Anyways, Congrats to all and Best of luck!
