Class of 2019 Rejections, Denials etc.

Ok, well now we have that cleared up. No MT acceptances since December at Penn State. Just Nos and Deferrals.

Consistent with what they said in the fall – they will contact people after Decision Sunday.

Just logged into my Ithaca portal and got this

“Your myIthaca account is unavailable at this time. If you have questions, please contact the Office of Admission at 800-429-4274 or 607-274-3124.”

I’m assuming that is the disable message. Oh well.

@MTer1997‌ – yup. We saw this Sunday and got the rejection letter today. Sorry! We really liked this program.

First rejection. First bowl of ice-cream.

Hang in there!

Here’s my question - has anyone on here done a study to decide if kids are more likely to be accepted if they audition on campus? Most programs get to spend more time with you - than just a 10 minute audition (or 3 minute in the case of some) at Unifieds. Also…most programs have financial aid deadlines before decisions for acceptance are issued - would the schools decline you because it appears you can’t afford them via your FAFSA?

mommabears, regarding your post 146…I believe there is NO difference in acceptance odds if you audition on campus or at Unifieds. Also, the audition time spent with the auditors in the audition room really doesn’t differ depending on the audition site.

I really don’t think financial need affects he decision at MOST schools. Some are need-blind and some are need-aware. On a personal note, my D applied for need-based aid and had a successful BFA admissions process and I know many others who have as well.

I don’t think either of the factors you mentioned affect BFA admissions.

The acceptance rates to almost all BFA in MT programs are in the single digits and will result in many rejections for most candidates (though most qualified candidates DO land somewhere!). It is not worth analyzing the rejections because the odds are so long that even the tippy top students (both academically and artistically) will get some rejections.

Countless students are admitted to BFA programs who auditioned at Unifieds and who filed FAFSA.

D did 5/8 BFA auditions at unifieds. 3 acceptances from unifieds (NYU, syracuse, Boston - rejected Ithaca and minn-Guthrie) and 3 campus - rejected all 3 (CMU, BW, CCM). She has a friend who did only on campus auditions and did I think 9 schools (and a lot of flying!). Accepted at 3, declined by 6

@MTer1997 - Sorry about Ithaca. The first one stings the most. What was the audition date?

It was on 2/2 at Chicago Unifieds.

Thanks guys. @soozievt‌, I know there is no rhyme or reason. It’s crazy you have to take the time to do all the applications, all the auditions - then all the financial aid stuff, and sometimes even scholarship and honors program stuff, without knowing if you are actually in the program. It would be nice if they adjusted deadlines for MT kid, you are notified March 1, you have until March 15 to submit financial aid, scholarship & honors program applications.

@toowonderful‌ - that’s good to hear. We are still waiting for NYU, Syracuse and BoCo from Unifieds too. Just got locked out of myithaca…so we know what that means.

@mommabears26‌ My S did 6 on campus (4 yes; 2 nos) and only 1 at NY Unifieds (a no). The issue is debated on other threads but I do not think there is any real discernable pattern.m

I think the simple answer is that if college adjudicators see someone they like, it doesn’t matter where they are auditioning.

I don’t think it matters where you’re auditioning. If a school sees something they like, they’ll take you, simple as that.
(Or at least, I hope; I am only doing one on-campus audition and seven unifieds.)
In all seriousness though, a lot of schools specifically say it doesn’t matter where you audition.

Can someone help me figure out Montclair State? She applied late, but was not a walkin in Chicago. Loved her audition. The admissions office says they have her audition results but can’t tell me. They are missing her transcript. Major still says “BFA Musical Theater”. Is this a good sign, or no sign?..

Have you confirmed from HS that transcript was sent? Usually a call to guidance can confirm…

@toowonderful‌, yes it has been sent. Just hasn’t shown up on check status.

My question is, can I tell anything about artistic acceptances from the check status tool?

Last year Montclair was my daughter’s favorite audition. They spent over 30 minutes in the audition room asking her great questions and really bonding (she felt it was her best experience). The status will change when they make a decision. It will say a Yes or a No next to it.

Thank you so much! Her status says neither.
