I am an admitted student for computer science and I was wondering if anyone has an idea of if I would fit in or not.

My reservations

-I am a moderet a little on the conservative side

  • I don’t smoke weed
  • the campus is a little spread out and I am worried about the walking distance
  • I am worried about finding a close group of friends
  • majorly afraid of the gronnola crunchy rep it has

My pros

  • I love surfing and its right down the way from steamers
  • its outrageously beautiful
  • I like the openmindedness
  • every one seems happy
  • like the laied back atmosphere

Any input would help !!!

@MooCowPoop It really depends on what department you applied to. My brother was just waitlisted and he is an excellent student. We all considered ucsc to be a match or backup for him in admissions, but forgot to take into account he applied for the CS program. Some majors are significantly more impacted / competitive than others, that’s just how it is unfortunately. I can’t tell you why you didn’t get in, sometimes you just aren’t what the university was looking for/ strong in aspects they were looking for. You can appeal but there has to be a HUGE change in your application / something major that will really want them to change their mind that happened after you applied. Otherwise it will not be considered. I would not recommend it and honestly believe less than 50 people will even get in off the waitlist this year

also, @niting, I’m just going to tell you right now that won’t be enough.

Accepted!!
ACT:25

  7. Other factors that affected your decision: Low GPA and Test Scores, plus I didn’t have any volunteer work

@datbandgirl
@JasmineAlexia15

Ps: rejected by UCD, UCSB, UCSD

Trying to decide where to attend. My options are UC Santa Cruz, UC Riverside, or University of Arizona. I will be studying Management Information Systems at UA or Technology Information Management at UCSC and Business Informatics. One discomfort I have with UCSC is I heard the student body is very liberal/radical, and I am a politically conservative person. I also heard UCR is a relatively boring campus with nothing to do around the city. Other than that, how do the academics compare between the 3 schools for my major?

I am from Southern California, so the weather at UCSC would fit me perfectly, but I don’t think the heat of UA would totally deter me from attending.

I want to have a good time wherever I attend, but academics are always going to come first. If anyone has any experience with these 3 schools could they give me any insight? I will be visiting all 3 schools in April, so I will make my ultimate decision then, but for now I would like to get the opinions of others who know more.

Thanks

@Sirlaz University of Arizona is a huge party school. HUGE.

@Sirlaz, academic in my opinion(which can be totally wrong), from best to worst, UCSC, UCR and UA. Weather wise, I would say there is not much difference between UCR and UA. as datbandgirl said, UA basically is a party school. You will have a great time there.

Thanks for the input @tuscany2019‌ and @datbandgirl‌. One of the main reasons I am considering UA is because it is ranked #5 in the nation for their MIS program, which is pretty much the perfect program for me. I know UCSC has Technology Information Management (TIM), so how would this compare to UA’s MIS? Will I be able to still get the same opportunities, such as internships and connections, at UCSC that I would get at UA? Which degree would look “better” after I graduate and enter the job market?

Sorry for all the questions, I’m just having a hard time deciding between the 2 schools. Like I said, I will be visiting both in the beginning of April, so whether or not I like the campuses will also contribute to my decision.

Also, in regards to UA being a party school, does the majority of the study body put a priority in partying over studying? I do want to have fun in college (go to parties and be social), but I don’t want to feel pressure to “turn up” every night.
