@Sirlaz: I think @datbandgirl is confusing Arizona State with the University of Arizona. ASU is a huge party school, always ranked top 50 each year. UA isn’t even in the top 100. If UA has the perfect program, go for it and Good Luck.
oops double post
@Sirlaz, be honest, I don’t know ucsc well. Consider it is close to Silicon Valley, it might have better opportunity for internship? On the other hand, ASU is a piece of ***. It has four campus locating in the east, south, west and north side of Phoenix with over 100k students? It has no reputation at all, even though some how, maybe because public relation or some thing like that, it got ranked higher. In fact, UA is 100 times better if not more. UA is the only school in Arizona, one may claim high quality of research and so forth. But still UA is located in a relatively small city, Tucson, which has not many employers which also means you don’t have much chances find internship. Most likely, you end up with Phoenix to find some jobs.
@tuscany2019 I am from SoCal, and my hopes are to move back to CA after graduating if I do attend UA. Being able to attain experience in my field while in college is important to me as well, and thats a bummer to hear that Tuscon doesnt offer very many alternatives. In terms of nationwide ranking/reputation, would employers prefer a UA graduate or a UCSC graduate? I know this depends on major, but I’m wondering if UA has the same recognition the UC’s do in both CA and other states.
@Sirlaz, Tucson has a bunch of defense industries, also its optical industries are good. As for MIS, I don’t know which one is better, UA or UCSC. I am sure UA has some name in Phoenix.

Hi,
I am a current junior looking to apply to UCSC CS or CE next year. Could anyone that got admitted to UCSC for these majors please post their stats? I would like to see whether my stats are comparable.
Thanks!
When I read the acceptance message, I cried tears of joy because I’ll be the first in my family to go to a university, and it’s a UC!
- Decision: Accepted
- ACT/SAT Score: 20/1550
- WGPA: 4.0 UWGPA: 3.8
- Extracurriculars: Soccer (1yr), TECHYes(3 yrs), Model United Nations (I founded it at my school this year), Performing Arts (1yr)
- Major: Undeclared
- Essay: The first, I think, was really strong. The second essay, I’m not so sure about. Overall, I wasn’t too confident as I feel I could have done better.
7.) AP’s: 8 total, including this year.
- Other Factors: Erm, I’m not really sure. I did summer programs and tutored kids at a middle-school for approximately a year, along with some other community service experiences. I live and have always lived in a rather segregated, high-crime rate town (that’s what my first essay was centered around), so maybe that played a role?
Honestly, I’m starting to get paranoid that they somehow made a mistake and I was actually rejected. checks portal again just in case omigod
Just as extra info.: I was rejected at UCLA and wait-listed at UCI.
Does anyone know when financial aid for UCSC goes online?
UCSB was my first choice but I’m going to have to decline admission because they aren’t giving me enough money and it’s so expensive
I seem to remember 3/30 as the date for financial aid for merit scholarships.

Regents scholar.
After reading about all the denials and acceptances form many of the UC colleges it is clear numbers are NOT the sole deciders in admission. Areas that can certainly help you are:
1- underrepresented minority
2 - income level -
3 - residency - out of state is a plus
4 - legacy
5 - first generation college student
Based on numbers only, there are a good number of applicants that should have been admitted and certainly a good number that should have been denied.
@DentalDad: UC’s do not consider Legacy nor URM (California publics banned affirmative action) in college admissions. First generation, low income and OOS (more money) are considered. Look at link for UCB common dataset C7 for what is considered in UC admissions:

The perception may be different than the reality.
