@kj52923 hmm, the odds are greatly against you since 2060 isn’t a very impressive score. However, it is tough to say anything without knowing other aspects of your application.

@Asad876 you’re right, Bio is really really memory intensive.

@kj52923 what’s a p5 grammarian?

If my memory of schools serves me right, I think it’s LGS Phase V.

I’m uncertain about which colleges to apply. Here’s a glimpse of my record:
CIE O’Levels: 10 As and 1 Outstanding Learner Award
A Levels: AAAA in Mathematics (A2), Physics, Chemistry, Computing (AS).
A2 subjects: Further Maths, Physics, Chem, Computer Science
Other relevant activities: Qualified NSTC (competing for a place in the IMO national team), 1st place across Islamabad in Kangaroo Maths (5th in country), VP. Maths society, conducting a course on Number Theory in my school, wide reading beyond A’level curriculum, several online maths courses from MIT’s OpenCourseWare, Harvard’s CS50, Stanford’s CS 106A, voluntary work at a local NGO.
Waiting for SAT 2 score, giving SAT 1 in December.
I know my modest record of EC’s will count against me. But anyways, where do I have a realistic chance of getting in?

Will you ask for aid?

Tbh, I cannot say anything with regards to this question without knowing the following details: what are you averaging on your SAT I diagnostics and what do you think you will get in the real test? Are you a good writer? Will you be able to get really good recommendations from your teachers? Are these all your ECs?

I have applied ED I to Middlebury College for the class of 2019, so I was hoping someone would chance me based on my credentials.

From LGS Phase 5

SAT I: 2090 (CR 770, Math 640, Writing 680)
SAT II Math Level 2 + Physics: awaiting scores

CIE O Level grades: 6A, 1A, 2B
A Level transcripts contain consistent As and the occasional A
Top 5-10% in my class.

Common app essay: Excellent (based on feedback from my counselor, seniors etc). Based on football, my strongest co curricular
Supplement: Middlebury doesn’t have a writing supplement

Counselor rec: I haven’t seen it but I’ve heard he writes really good recommendations.
Teacher recs: One is from my O Levels English teacher and that’s excellent. The other is from my current Physics sir and that’s really good too.
Peer rec: My friend at Swarthmore College wrote a peer rec for me.

Co-curricular activities:
- Football (soccer) - Member of the school team, captain of the local football team, former member of MTFA (Pakistan’s leading football academy). Have won numerous trophies including the Punjab Olympics
- Debates/MUN - Member of the school’s English parliamentary debating team. Have reached a couple of tournament finals. Ranked in the top 10 speakers in some tournaments. Won a Best Delegate award at a MUN as well.
- Community Work - Member of a registered NGO that was founded by my friend, named Talaash. Have helped flood survivors and school children below the poverty line.
- Paid Internship (for a month)
- Student Council Prefect for the academic year 2014-2015
- Acted in the Annual Play of my school back in 10th grade
- Member of the school’s media society
- Former member of the school’s table tennis team
- Ranked in the top 50 in the All Pakistan Math Olympiad held at Pak Turk School

I got called for an interview with an alumni and that went really well too.
Being an international student, I’ve asked for a huge amount of aid.

What do you think my chances are? I am skeptical about my SAT score.

I’d like to know who else has applied ED I to Midd and an overview of their credentials if that’s not too much to ask.

Also, my college list includes colleges like Vassar, Colgate, Bates, Grinnel and backups like Trinity, Franklin & Marshall etc. If I get rejected/deferred from Midd, I am probably going to take the SAT again in January for RD and then apply to reach colleges like Swarthmore, Amherst and Dartmouth.

Do you think my overall profile is good enough for my overall college list?

@kj52923 AAVAI KHAWAJAY

Around how much is substantial aid?

I can afford to pay as much as LUMS cost per annum.

I guess it would boil down to your essays in the end. Your school academics are strong (but SAT scores could have been >=700in each but no big deal). Your ECs may be slightly weak, but since we don’t know who else did Middlebury ED, it’s very difficult to judge. How well did SAT 2s go?

Don’t understand how you got 770 in CR btw, applying for a humanities program?

Both SAT II tests went along the 700 score-line, but Midd only requires either SAT I or SAT II or ACT.

The alumnus who took my interview told me he loved my resume and thought the balance between academics, co curricular activities and pro bono work was excellent, so let’s see.

I used to get 800’s in my diagnostic CR’s, so that wasn’t a surprise. Math was.
And yeah, Economics and Pol Sci major most probably.

Guys I need help.

So my SAT II scores came out. Turns out they aren’t as good as I thought they were going to be. In fact, they are terrible. I got 640 in Physics and 620 in Math L2. Remember, my SAT score is 2090.

Now I’m in a dilemma. There has been a lack of epiphany from my side so I’m looking for advice. Let’s assume I don’t get admitted ED to Middlebury. For RD, my college list has colleges that require both the SAT and SAT II. My SAT score isn’t great, and my SAT II scores are terrible. I have one shot, the test in January. I don’t know if I should use that try to get my SAT II scores above 700 or instead focus on the SAT and get my math score up to get a great super-score.

Thoughts?

@altolime, how would you rank Wharton, the rest of Penn, Chicago and Dartmouth?

@isminho Hmm, I would personally give the SAT IIs again if faced with your dilemma but the decision is ultimately yours. Weigh the pros and cons and take the route that you think is best for you.

@MalikBhai rank with regards to what?

@AltoLime can I have a detailed discussion with you right now if you’re free?
