Class of 2020 Admission Results

Responding for my daughter
Applied: 10/16
Admitted: 12/9
Merit: 12K (OOS)
Harvey invitation received: 1/7
ACT: 32 (33 superscore)
GPA: 4.0 unweighted

When we visited last spring, the admissions rep said the 2014 freshman class was full by Nov. 1 and to get applications submitted in September. So we were a little panicked when she didn’t get it done until mid-October. Then there were some delays with them finding her transcript (may have been due to a typo on high school’s end) and receiving her ACT scores. For 6 weeks, her portal kept saying there were no ACT scores (lesson learned, don’t send them at time of application!). By the end of November, we figured there was no hope of her getting in, but I emailed the school to check on the ACT scores and quickly received a friendly reply saying her scores had been received and her application was ready for review. A little over a week later she received her acceptance email. Her portal still says they are waiting on scores, so I don’t know if the email helped get things going or if it worked out the way it was going to work out.

Why you think you got accepted/wait listed/rejected: High scores. Honestly I thought the Mines application was really easy… but not very in-depth. I’ve also got the XX chromosomes. I visited over the summer and got an individual tour of the geophysics department, which was really cool. I’ve also been invited to Harvey.

I complained earlier on this thread that S16 applied by late Oct, all parts of app received by Mines 11/6…and no decision in their 30 day time frame. I called them several times since then and they said “30 business days”, then “applications are still under review”, then “we apologize but our review of applications is taking longer than expected”. Until today there has been no word. Today my S16 received two pieces of mail from Mines…one regarding financial aid deadlines, the other congratulating him on his merit scholarship of xxx dollars. So, now we can assume he was admitted (hopefully!), but still no acceptance via e-mail/snail mail…nothing!

Am I the only parent that is frustrated by this school? Mines has been a great option for my son, yet at this point my opinion is so colored by the frustration experienced in the application process. I had really hoped for an acceptance and an opportunity to visit with my son, now I feel reluctant to even consider visiting.

Thanks for allowing me to rant!

Very nice folks in admissions office at Mines were able to help solve the mystery…all is good! Now hopefully we can make a visit work!

So glad it worked out!! We had some issues as well and they worked it all out!! We are also trying to make a visit work!!!

If the application/admissions process is anything like the way the rest of the school is operated it would be wise to send your kids somewhere else. They seem to be 20 years behind every other college.

My son received the accepted email on the 19th. This looks to be a day after the Harvey Scholars was due :frowning:
He submitted the application on on November 9th. Mines receives transcripts electronically, BUT the ACT is sent by snail mail. We added priority and when we called a week later, they still didn’t have it. This was very frustrating as the FAQ ( http://www.mines.edu/NewFreshmen#FAQ2 ) on submitting ACT scores on their site says to have them sent electronically. Would have ordered the ACT sooner had their FAQ been correct. Hope to here about merit aid soon.

I just got accepted!

Here’s my stats, I’m kind of surprised I got in.

Out of state (from the northeast)

GPA: 3.2
SAT 1600: 1420
SAT 2400: 2090

Eagle Scout
2 sports
2 clubs
Job
Volunteer for the Sanders campaign

I think my essay turned out pretty well

Does anyone know if there’s a facebook group or groupchat?

no answer for my son as well. applied on Nov 1st. Do you get postal mail or email from them about acceptance? We sent them email 2 times in last 2-3 weeks asking status but they are very prompt in answering those emails saying that your application in under process.

Admitted
Applied early September but ACT scores took until late December (most frustrating thing ever)
In state
Act - 30 (27 math, 29 science, 33 english, 30 reading)
GPA weighted and unweighted- 3.67/3.92
No merit aid
ECs- play fooball/lax, accomplished chess player, syndicated writer, saxophonist
Hook- being well rounded and having an interesting life story made up for my lower/mid range grades (at least in terms of csm applicants)
Why- honestly a bit surprised, I think I’m definitely on the border but a glowing recommendation and being in state helped me a lot.

I think that the combination of ACT coming in snail mail, their “30 day decision”, and the free Golden Application lead to a pretty potent admissions process. It’s deceptive as to when your application is actually complete unless you sent your ACT score there early and the 30 day process is 30 business days assuming you got it EVERYTHING in before their deadlines. Not trying to justify the wait, but definitely was misleading as to the actual timeline to expect. My understanding is that emails are going out before the packets are but again from the various reports in this thread who really knows what’s happening lol. Poor admissions office is getting hammered

Still Waiting and very frustrated.

Applied mid October (According to admission office complete Nov 6)
In State, ACT 33, GPA 4.86 or 3.95 unweighted, competitive high school, athlete, EC’s, white male
Who knew good grades would keep you OUT of a college. Is it possible that colleges are delaying/denying admissions to high achievers so they don’t have to distribute merit money?
Know of at least two others from his school who are admitted with lower GPA’s, fewer EC’s and ACT under 30.

@ShriGanesha S received admission decision by e-mail second week in January (applied Oct. 30, app was complete Nov. 6th). It took approx. 9 weeks for decision for a “30 day” decision!

I am wondering if they got a record number of applications this year?

Admitted mid November
Applied mid October

3.8 unweighted
14K/year in merit
Four years in competitive debate, four years in tennis, animal shelter volunteer work.
