@PhilaSkiMom. Good to know. I don’t think I entirely realized that.
@dbjs70, Yes, Scholarship notifications are going out through March 1. The Scholarship Committee will send the initial notification to anyone who is selected to receive a scholarship.

@hailtopitt1787, My daughter got her acceptance letter indicating her intended field of study (admitted to the Swanson SOE). Does it mean that she is already admitted as a major?
@cal2il, Congrats to your daughter! We do not admit students to a specific major, but rather to a particular school. So, your daughter would enter the School of Engineering, go through the first year curriculum (the same for all engineers regardless of intended major) and then declare a major at the end of her freshman year.

Thanks a lot for clarifying this @hailtopitt1787 . The letter further says that she is also eligible to participate in the Honors College. When can she expect to receive a formal notification along with honors program details.
I don’t know exactly how long they wait to send that off the top of my head, but I believe you should get that info within 2-3 weeks. In the meantime, feel free to check out honorscollege.pitt.edu for information on special programs, honors housing, and more.
Hope that helps!

I am getting a little worried I won’t get any merit aid from Pitt. Am I correct in saying that scholarship letters continue to be sent until March 1st, meaning they could arrive up to a week after? Also does merit aid show up on the Financial Aid Award Letter with loans/grants?
Thanks!
@andy2016, Yes, I just checked with the Scholarship Committee and they said that those selected for scholarships could hear as late as mid-March.

@hailtopitt1787 Awesome- thanks for checking.
Could anyone chime in on what they think my chances are for merit aid?
Stats: 33 ACT, 3.81 uw GPA, top 20% of class, many ECs, filled out the short answer, OOS from CO.
Thanks so much!
This is from the website! Good luck!
In recent years, scholarship eligible students possessed ALL of the following:
minimum SAT score of 1450 (math and critical reading scores only) or 33 ACT (Math and English subscores average)
overall ‘A’ average
top 5% class rank (if applicable) while participating in challenging high school curriculums consisting of AP/IB/Honors courses
record of excellence in various academic and nonacademic activities outside of the classroom
$11,000 Scholarship. 3.82 GPA 33 ACT. OOS It isn’t enough though. My parents almost disowned me and refuse to pay for any of my college tuition because I left their religion (Mormonism). Is there anything I can do to cut down the price to almost nothing?
$15000 Scholarship OOS SAT 2240. SAT ii Bio 800 Math I 750 GPA 4.33. 11 AP. Lots of EC and leaderships. Pre-med/Biology. I will attend GAP interview next week. Good luck everyone.
@hailtopitt1787 do you know if the committee has completed the notifications? We’re trying to figure out if we still have a chance for a merit scholarship. Thanks.
@2asmom, The Scholarship Committee told me that all scholarship award letters should be received by March 12th.
Best of luck,
A Pitt Admissions Staffer
Ah, maybe that’s good news for us too!
Fingers crossed!
@2asmom, have you heard anything about scholarships?
Not yet. Losing hope…
Same here. We’ve pretty much decided if my S picks Pitt we’ll file an aid appeal based on the offers he has from other schools.
@dbjs70 We’re planning to do the same. Pitt is definitely his 1st choice but he’s received some good offers from other schools. Do you know how successful people are with appeals?
