Class of 2020 National Merit Discussion

Yes that test was ridiculous ! Your child definitely in the running though, let’s hope for an unchanged level from last year.

My best friend is the guidance counselor at my daughter’s small, Catholic school where she is the only senior that is in the running. My daughter is sitting on a 222 in Michigan so that “should” be enough to qualify but it is still nerve-wracking. My friend will let me know as soon as the school receives the info from NM and I will post as soon as I find out anything.

@sm0918 PLEASE ask your friend if she gets the booklet with all the NMSF, to please let you know the state cut offs! In recent years it was listed just below the heading for each state. I really need to know TX!!!

@sm0918 and California as well.

@sm0918 and Illinois as well, please  thank you!

Our HS principal in WI just emailed me that my son is a semi-finalist.

@Libby1901 What was his SI? So glad to know official word is getting out!!!

216—we didn’t get any other information, just that he qualified.

Congratulations!! @libby1901

Congratulations! @Libby1901! Today is student holiday at our school. Hopefully we will hear next Tuesday!

I’m taking this as a good sign, 216 was the cut off for WI last year so I hope other states will also stay the same.

@Libby1901 My son has a 216 in Wisconsin as well, but we haven’t heard yet!!!

@Libby1901 Congratulations to your son!! Can you PM me and let me know where you are located? Would love to connect with another WI family on this NMSF journey!

@vcrew6 My son is applying for an NROTC scholarship and the sooner you apply the better your odds, so I specifically asked our principal to contact me as soon as the school found out, so my son could add it to his scholarship app and submit it as early as possible. I don’t know if he would’ve been as attentive to the mail if I hadn’t been in his ear.

I’m really surprised that WI has a lower selection index than TN. I would have expected it to be the same or higher. Maybe it’s because WI has a lower population?

WI had 330 NMF Semifinalists whereas TN had 315. So it is not a matter of population. The top 1% scores in TN performed better than in WI.

Any idea what the selection index will be for Tennessee?

if I am betting person, I would bet 219/218 with a very remote chance of becoming 217, as it just got bumped up to 219 in the last cycle.

I hope the alternate test date makes it 218 or 217!!!

All the best and hope you make it. I am also on the bubble in MA. waiting for the confirmation scores.
