Class of 2020 National Merit Discussion

^^^ nope

Congratulations to all who got good news.

@clancye ; Which school district you are in ?

I am also in North Texas in Plano ISD and no letter and no information from school for now.

In Georgia (north of Atlanta), our son’s school got the letter yesterday and let us know. He will be recognized during chapel this morning! NMF! It is certainly tilting him toward FSU (over Purdue).

Son’s school hung a list on the wall. They have 24 this year, which is a few less than last year.

See a letter in today’s USPS Informed Delivery from NMSC, for delivery today in Chicago area.

GC emailed end of day yesterday- in Southern California (OC)

oops sorry i posted to the wrong reply

Plano ISD here too. I’m not sure if Plano West SHS, Plano SHS, and Plano East SHS will coordinate a day to pull the students in for their certifactes or not. Nothing at West so far, and the counselor won’t reply to my email.

Received word from GC today! So relieved! It really was a long road of standardized testing… both ACT and SATs taken. So glad it paid off!

@sibpuri We are in Frisco ISD

Are a lot of your kids going to colleges that offer a full ride as result of national merit finalist status?

Mine hopefully is - hence high level of anxiety waiting for the letter (even though I intellectually understand that she really should be fine)

@drxxpresso which college? I’m surprised at how long some of the school districts are taking. My d found out Monday.

@twinmommy she’s hoping for UCF. Our high school guarded NMSF results like they were a state secret, so I’m not hopeful they’re going to tell the kids about NMF.

Not here.

My son is not looking for a free education. He’s looking for the best education he can get at an affordable price. Many of the schools he’s interested in offer no NMF money. That’s fine. There’s other money available. Being a NMF is a tremendous honor that does open the door to some great financial opportunities, but those great financial opportunities are not always the best academic opportunities.

Full Tuition paid at University of Cincinnati Engineering School or one time $10,000 at University of Kentucky in addition to her Presidential Scholarship. Either way it makes a huge difference for our family. D doesn’t want to go to school more then 4 hours from our home, so we can’t take advantage of the big ones.

Maybe fordham for full tuition, but still awaiting regular decisions for elsewhere.

Not really. Only one of colleges he applied give some $ to NMSC finalist (TAMU gives $10K a year). But luckily, he is getting scholarships from every colleges he heard back.

Only 3 of the 8 schools my daughter is applying to offer NMF merit $ - and it’s the minimum $2,000/year amount.
