Class of 2020 RD Dicussion

Accepted! 4.5 W and 3.9 UW. 34 ACT, 2250 SAT and 790 SAT Subject English 720 Math. Congrats to everybody who got accepted and I hope it works out for everybody

Hey y’all, so I made a separate thread for those who were waitlisted like myself, and I haven’t gotten any responses. I’ll try my luck out here. Is there anything that I could possibly do to help my chances of getting off the waitlist? I know it’s nearly impossible, but when it comes to first choice schools, I’d like to give it my best shot.

@Iamtrentondooney I know how you feel. My daughter got into Emory and it made her feel much better about her Chapel Hill waitlist too. If it makes you feel better, the NC legislature has put an 18% out of state limit on UNC applicant acceptance. So, it is very difficult especially without being a legacy. My daughter got into Berkeley, UVA and Michigan but waitlisted there. So, it’s a crapshoot at these high level schools. They get so many more qualified applicants than they can possibly take. So, it seems they try to just accept a variety of majors and demographics be it by race, residence, or a variety of factors that they believe will create the most successful and interesting mix. Congratulations to you and all the other students who were accepted to Emory! Those who weren’t I am sure you have lots of other amazing options and this just helps narrow your focus. Good luck to all of you!! BTW my daughter’s stats - 1st in her class, 2190 SAT, NMF, 4.76 gpa etc.

Congratulations to all who were accepted! I applied ED 2 and was accepted to both Emory and Oxford.

And for those that are bitter about their decisions (@ohio101), I can understand how you feel. I applied ED to Johns Hopkins and didn’t get in. I couldn’t understand why JHU accepted students with considerably lower stats than me. I scored a 35 on my ACT and a 2230 on my SAT, yet other students with 30 and 31 ACT scores were admitted. I lamented about my decision for weeks but realized that there were other schools that were going to be a better fit for me. So I understand why you are upset but to say that Emory is not competitive, even though a considerable amount of people today were rejected or waitlisted is insensitive to say the least. And if you were accepted into “better” schools then this decision should not affect you too much. There are many students who would kill to go to Emory. Last year out of the 15 people who applied to Emory, only 2 got in…so Emory is definitely competitive. Also, even ivy leagues accept people that are below their 25th percentile. A girl in my school got into Harvard with a 31 on her ACT, so anything is possible. Btw I did get into UC Berkeley, USC, UVA but Emory was my top choice.

Sorry for rambling but the college process is very stressful, we should try to support each other rather than bring each other down. Again congrats to all the admitted students!!! And for those who were waitlisted or rejected, there are other amazing schools for you!!!

“I’m not trying to minimize anyone’s accomplishments but I was accepted at better schools and Emory is not even that competitive so I find it interesting that they waitlisted me. Do they have regional or racial quotas? Because I know dumb people from around where I live, and they were accepted and some people on this thread said they were accepted but they have horrible test scores and gpas… And yes I know test scores aren’t everything but lol a 29 or 30… Since when did Emory start taking state school rejects…”

Even though my D got into Emory (as well as Stanford, Hopkins, Vanderbilt, Rice, USC and will get into at least Dartmouth tomorrow) I still get so furious at this post. We should never forget Emory was where the country/the world looked to when we had the Ebola scare last year.

@ohio101 just made the most compelling argument in favor of holistic admissions ever. Seriously though, congrats to everyone who got in. You guys will probably be seeing me on the Emory campus next year; I’ll be the Econ major making “your mom” jokes.
Stats: 2100 SAT, 3.78 GPA, Native American from Kansas, Tons of ECs and honors
Best of luck to all!

Wow I’m actually honored to be wait listed considering how competitive this pool was. Congrats to everyone and if you were denied, everything works out in the end!!

No FA … “We still hope you enroll”

How? I stated that I can pay 3000$ only …

No really, how did they offer me admission with no FA?

Isn’t it supposed to come out on Friday? @MohTamer

Rejected at Emory. It was my top choice, and it really hurt but I am so happy for everyone who gets the chance to attend such an amazing school. Best of luck :heart::heart:
SAT: 2200 GPA: 4.78 13 AP Classes, 3/550, 10 ECs with numerous state championships and leadership positions, part time job etc.
Holding on to the fact that everything happens for a reason.

@Hilary918 oh man if i could i would totally give you my admission because chances are, i can’t pay for this :frowning: so if i could give it to someone who really really sounds like they would totally go i would give it to you. I hope everything works out for you in the end! you sound like an awesome person!

@MohTamer relax bud they don’t come out till Friday

@jobbybones720 now you’re just implying that people who got wait listed deserved to not get an acceptance letter…

I GOT IN YOU GUYS I DIDNT OPEN IT FOR 2 HOURS BECAUSE I THOUGHT I WOULD DEFINITELY NOT GET IN BECAUSE MY SAT WAS SO BAD BUT OMG I GOT INTO BOTH!!!

@ohio101 I know there has been a lot of responses to your post but I just want to add something. I go to a high school where many kids enter high school with no hopes of a entering a four year college directly out of high school due to money and inferior primary education has them behind the eight ball. These kids still work very hard in high school, knowing they are going to junior college, and shoot for the honors program. They are grateful when they get in honors and they are grateful when they can transfer to a four year college after completing junior college. I know people with perfect SAT and great grades and EC who didn’t get in anywhere they applied (on all waitlists or denied). Be Grateful.

Does anyone know if Emory typically gives somewhat decent financial aid? Just in general. Like I know NYU is pretty bad about FA
