Class of 2020 RD

@gonewiththeair I have a sinking feeling about all of this.

Something weird is going on. My D was able to create acct on myau.american.edu on Tuesday. We were not able to find any fin aid info at that time. Didn’t look at loan tab. So I tried to log in today and it will not let me log in or change my password. Anyone having this issue?

I can’t log onto the portal anymore! What does this mean?? I hope my acceptance and financial aid wasn’t taken away :frowning:

some person yesterday called admissions so Im sure they are just attempting to keep people from logging on. Or they are updating the portal with more information, either could be possible. Just be patient and give it a little bit of time.

don’t worry too much

I’m not concerned about it because we aren’t supposed to have access to this information anyway… It’s a hack. It worked, we found information on our applications. Perhaps the University has caught on, but they cannot hold it against the students for being curious after waiting 4 months. What has happened has happened, and now we will just have to wait as we already have been.

@helenanca - this has been going on since at least 2014, maybe before, so I am sure AU knows about this already and if they haven’t stopped it yet, it can’t be a big deal to them. But I agree with @gonewiththeair and @Apples1789302 - People, please relax- at this point everyone will be hearing soon officially - don’t let not getting on successfully, or logging on and not seeing honors program, etc, get you all upset - they are obviously still loading info onto the portals so give them time and don’t overthink every little thing - it’ll make you crazy!!

Probably because someone called a few days ago. If you can read html you can see that a redirect url has been now put in place so that when you log on, you will be redirected to this placeholder page that was not there before.

It is temporary and everything else is still the same from what I can see…

It’s definitely not a hack.

I’m guessing that they just weren’t aware of this before but now that they are (thanks to whoever called admissions) they don’t want us to see that information and are now preventing us from doing so.

I agree with @gonewiththeair. I also believe that creating an account will not affect anyone’s admission decision. AU has known about this for a few years and chose to let it go. In my humble opinion the excitement shown by applicants should be a great sign of the schools reputation. It’s all good. In a few short weeks we will all know their final decision. With all that being said…this is college “confidential”.

I’m disappointed that someone would actually call admissions. But I am not surprised. Thanks to whoever first pointed it out, though! I look forward to knowing for sure.

Can’t log in anymore, shoutout to whoever called them.

^^^

i can still log in. It says sorry since I am not a current student, but I can still see information by clicking on academics and finance at end of page. O and this is College Confidential, not let me call admissions to ask a question about why I can’t log into a portal!!

Was everyone invited to the webinar tonight? Anyone who couldn’t log into the portal, did you get an invite to the webinar?

I can’t help it anymore…enough with the shaming of the person or persons who may have called admissions! It was suggested here that an admitted student would be able to create a student portal and access his/her information. Imagine how a prospective student must have felt when he/she could not create a portal when so many others are claiming to “see” information about their account and admissions status! The people on CC are only human and do what if someone panicked and called admissions to seek clarification? I assure you that CC is not confidential at all and the site is routinely monitored Abby AU personnel, so get over it and stop the shaming!!

@Apples1789302 Everyone was invited. It was in the email that was sent to all applicants earlier this week.

@Jules821 Sure, I understand completely why the person did it. But I still don’t think they should have done it. What did they expect American to say? Did they expect them to confirm their acceptance? Of course, they were only going to say that the website should not be taken as a sign of acceptance of denial. But for that simple answer that everyone knew they’d give, they blocked the rest of us from seeing the portal in the next few weeks as it is updated.

@Jules821 I think that many posters are upset because there is a certain amount of trust and camaraderie that exists within the threads and forums of College Confidential, and by contacting AU Admissions without first asking for advice from the thread about it feels like a betrayal of that trust. Especially since there were multiple posts which explicitly stated that 1. The portal method was an unorthodox back door method of estimating your chance at admissions, and 2. not being able to create a portal doesn’t mean you haven’t gotten in.

Did anyone here attend the Webinar?
