Class of 2020 RD

@Riviera2016 exactly what happened to me and I got my acceptance packet in the mail yesterday so no need to assume anything until you’ve received your decision!

Anyone know anything about overnights for admitted students? I am unable to attend Freshman Day but I am still interested in visiting campus again

Thanks for the info. That definitely helps!

@kmpmarsh
Sudbury.

I got in with a 3.45 GPA and 1930 SAT. I was not expecting this!

Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (CR+M+W): 1870 (CR: 620, M: 550, W: 700 (Essay: 9 but I scored a 10 on another one that I did not submit).
[
] GPA: 4.0/4.0 W (just under a 3.4 UW)
[] APs: 8 AP Courses.
place score in parenthesis): AP English Language (4), AP Spanish Language (3), AP US Government (3), AP Environmental Science (N/A), AP World History (N/A). The other 3 I’m taking this is: AP English Literature, AP Psychology, and AP Human Geography.
[
] IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
[] College courses? If so, list them.:
[
] Senior Year Course Load: AP Psychology, AP English Literature, AP Human Geography, Introduction to Engineering, Honors Chambers Chorus, Honors Calculus w/ Applications (1 semester), Sociology (1 Semester), Internship (second semester-- second half of the day).
[li] How were your essays? Rate out of 10: 9 out of 10 for Common App essay. For the optional supplements, I only did one. I’d say 8 out of 10, nothing too impressive I feel like, considering it had to be less than 100 words (I think? I don’t really remember the exact word count but it wasn’t an actual essay).[/li]
[/ul]Other[ul]
[]** Intended Major: ** Undeclared but I’m probably going to declare my major in International Studies and minor in Spanish or something along those lines. Haven’t fully figured everything out yet.
[
] Extracurriculars: Eagle Scout (I’m also the Troop’s Librarian), Vice President of Spanish Honor Society, Secretary and Peer Buddy for Best Buddies (club that works with students who have intellectual/developmental disabilities), Historian for Model United Nations-- won Outstanding Delegate Award at the Spring County Conference, Assistant Counselor for Summer Camp, and I have a job as a tutor for a local education service.
[] If International, from what country?:
[
] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: White
[
] Gender: Male
[] Citizen?: US
[
] Served in military? No
[] Married?: No
[
] Orphan?: No, however my mother is widowed so I have one parent.
[] # of Family Members: 4
[
] Level of Education of Parents/Guardians: Doctorates
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): N/A.
[
] Living on-campus? Yes

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Extracurriculars and essays maybe, but in my acceptance letter, it specifically mentioned that the fact that I was an Eagle Scout really impressed the Admissions Committee. They were “excited by my level of commitment and exemplary record of sustained achievement” (word for word). So for you class of 2021-ers and beyond, remember that extracurriculars really mean a lot in admissions! GPA and test scores, while very important, are not everything in the decision process.
[
] Weaknesses: With that said, definitely my GPA and test scores.
[] Are you going to AU?: Very high possibility!
[
] If not, where are you going?: Not sure.

[/ul]General Comments/Additional Information:[list]
N/A

@TX2016 Here is a link to register for overnights: http://www.american.edu/admissions/MC.cfm

Hey everyone! Acceptance letter came in the mail today! I’m from Texas, and applied for International Studies. I was able to make a portal a few weeks ago and saw that I was given a $12,000 Dean’s scholarship, and they gave me the same amount in the letter. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

They always reject and waitlist high stat students. They do this every year. I think American would take their entire class ED if they could. They probably figure that if your stats are that high, you aren’t going to choose American anyway.

Where in New Jersey?

@tg2016 where in New Jersey? North, central, or south?

@403320 Did you demonstrate interest in the school at all? Schedule tours, attend online seminars, apply for specific programs, etc? American is known for wait listing/denying high achievers if they feel like those students don’t really want to attend. And from the looks of your post, it seems like you did just that.

Accepted for Spring 2017 with Mentorship for the Fall. Does anyone know if all Spring admits have the mentorship option?

Guys, how do I access my student account?? I created one back when applicants were creating them in hopes that they got in and then AU blocked people from creating/logging into their student accounts. Now that I’ve officially been accepted, I still can’t log back in :frowning:

@eric2020 there are still some ongoing technical issues regarding the online accounts-- no worries! Give it a few days and I’m sure the system will be back up and running.

@eric2020 It’s the weekend now but if you’re still having problems on Monday, contact the Help Desk. They had to reset mine.

@HeyItsNick @radgreek you guys are the best. Thank you!!

DD accepted in MA, got $15k scholarship. Was able to see all that on portal a few weeks ago tho not lately. 30 ACT, 3.7 UW, 4.0 W. Very good EC

Accepted to Carnegie Mellon. Not so stressed about AU anymore…

Has anyone in CA been rejected?
