In anticipation to the good news that is about to start coming in, we have recreated the Big Thread where parents, students, or delighted observers can come and share their good news.
This is also the place to discuss both happy and disappointing news, and to support each other in the best manner of a community like this one.

Time has also come to let the posts for the Class of 2019 find their resting place in our forums.
Way back in September, DS was accepted and committed himself to Alabama. He’s been under lots of pressure since then, but he’s been relieved when he hears about the applications and anticipation from his classmates since then.
But a big part of that pressure had been his Eagle Project. That’s now complete, paperwork is turned in, and while we’re still pending a BOR, it’s a tremendous relief to clear that hurdle as well. Fingers crossed, we’ll have an Eagle Scout before too long here.
DD got her first acceptance a few days ago to Temple Japan. It is nice to have the first notification be a yes. She is waiting to hear from her dream school, and has a few other rolling applications in the works. Just relieved and happy for her that she got a yes. Her high school path has been unconventional, and a little rocky. Some paths are like that . . . Best of luck to everyone.
Awesome news for your D mstee. It’s is definitely relieving n gratifying to have an acceptance in hand. I am sure that there will be more good news in the coming weeks n months.
DD has had two acceptances, University of Indiana and University of Oregon. But, she is still waiting on her first choice school, Tulane. She is growing more anxious as she has several friends who have been accepted there already.
It is definitely a huge relief to have the acceptances in her pocket. She still has four applications do complete and submit in the next few days…
My Son received yesterday an acceptance letter from SUNY Albany, inclusive of a scholarship. He is very happy with Albany, he wants to study physics and he visited the labs and like them a lot. Other choice is Binghamton and Stony Brook
It’s really great hearing about acceptances coming in now - the past few months have been so stressful! Congratulations to all of you! DS has applied to 11 schools and has heard back from 5 so far - all acceptances (Ithaca, Guilford, U of South Carolina, U of Central Florida & Bowling Green State). He’s due to hear from UMass & Elon next week (early action at both) but now I’m hearing that UMass was sending out acceptances at a trickle last year, all the way to nearly February. UMass is one of his top choices - don’t know if we can stand the wait
DD deferred from her top choice, Tulane. Very competitive pool of applicants lately, and esp. this year, it looks like. But got notice of acceptance today at Gustavus Adolphus (rolling admission – gotta love those rolling admissions!) Gustavus is a good solid school not too far from where we live. It is nice to know that someone wants her, after receiving that disappointing news (though not really unexpected as Tulane is her reach).
My best friend attended GA and loved it! She had the opportunity to travel abroad, too. It was completely different than the ginormous university I attended. I have to say I’m a bit envious of her experience. It will all work out in the end.
Congrats to all the acceptances so far. And good luck to those still waiting. @mstee I hope your daughter gets great news in the spring.
Last week my daughter received the news she has been accepted to her dream school, TCU (ED). She had been previously accepted to Texas State University and Stephen F. Austin State University (both rolling admissions) which were ultra-safeties, neither of which she really wanted to attend. I was surprised how torturous the wait felt. I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one that has felt that way. It is a such a relief to get this news and a terrific early Christmas present from TCU!
DS got a rejection from Wharton (a long shot in my mind). He is disappointed. So far none of his friends got into the top schools yet. Some are waiting on MIT, Yale, etc. We are waiting for the other school he applied, U of Michigan. This is really our top choice in my mind because it’s in-state for us. I really hope we will hear good news on Friday. Otherwise, he needs to apply to Michigan State, which is not a school we are looking forward to given his sister is in U of Michigan.
@JH8888 Sorry to hear the Wharton news. Fortunately, your state has a world-class public university at a superb cost. Our state has a good public university but the cost is higher than most.
DD got into Eckerd! She is very pleased. She was hoping some warm weather schools would come through. So far, there is one to consider, at least. We are planning to visit and go kick the tires. I have never been to Florida. I love these rolling admissions. It’s really nice for a kid (and parents) to know that she has attractive options before April 1.
@mstee Congrats on the acceptance. Eckerd is in a nice location too. I’d do a little nudging for her to accept the offer so you’d have an excuse to go to FL often.
Haha – yes. I want to visit Florida often, now that I live in Minnesota. Eckerd looks like a really neat school. We are all excited to have the opportunity to go check it out!
