Call one or both schools and see what can be done to reschedule. Also, if the snow is bad, they may have some no shows, and thus be a bit more flexible on the day itself?
Okay I called them and they were able to help me out. I’m basically doing the warm up session at School A going to audition at School B and then running back to School A end of the session to audition. Phew!
I think the schools sometimes make their dance calls challenging to see how a student will handle the situation. The right attitude and effort will go a long way with making a good impression. They are looking for POTENTIAL, not perfection.
Question: I have pointe under training and special skills on my resume. Should I have my pointe shoes with me in case they ask about it at Unifieds?
Has anyone ever auditioned at CCM?
Re: dance calls. If you don’t know what you are doing, make sure your face is engaged and you look like you are having fun and performing! Not everyone has years of dance training. But know your ballet terms…the last two auditions had heavy ballet…
My D is also an advanced ballet dancer who went through this process last year. She was never asked to demonstrate her pointe skills. I think many years of ballet performances on her resume spoke to her skill level.
Praying for all of y’all headed to NY for Unifieds. Keep smiling while getting through those dance calls and make some memories. This will be over before you know it, and you will end up where you are supposed to be! BAL! [-O<
Good Luck Everyone! We will be doing this craziness next year!
Was lucky enough to get to NYC before the snow hits. I’m just hoping there are some ubers around tomorrow because I need to get from Pearl Studios to NOLA for Ithaca auditions and I’m trying to avoid walking for 20min in a snowstorm
@MTheatreKid - I would recommend perhaps using the subway rather then over, as I imagine bad weather could significantly drive up the price
@MTheatreKid - use the subway. We had the same issue today and it as quick! From Pace. Fukton St. Station E train uptown. Get off at 50th (at 8th) Walk towards 54… It’s on 54th between 7th and 8th…
@MTtheatreKid - From Pearl it’s easy on the subway. Half a block from the building there is an entrance to the A and C lines. Just make sure that it says “uptown” - I can’t remember if it specifies on that entrance. If not you will need to walk one more block to the main entrance to that stop at 34th St.Take the A or C to 50th St, as @Dankadon says. Walk 4 blocks north to 54th. Under normal weather circumstances this would all take 20 minutes depending on the wait for the train. But today won’t be normal!
Question - My D did the open call in NYC on Friday. Rider emailed her about sending in an application. It was a kind of general email. Did everyone who auditioned get one or does the email mean they are interested in her for MT? We don’t want to pay another application fee unless this is a serious possibility. (Posted on another thread also.)
I don’t know how Rider works specifically, but we were told at other schools that they won’t consider your audition unless you’ve submitted an application. So basically, I don’t think you can read anything into the email.
I just wanted to let everyone know that the admissions rep from the Manhattan School of Music, with whom I spoke at Unifieds, told me that they are still accepting applications to their new MT program. It says Dec 1 on their website, but apparently it is not too late if anyone want to add MSM to their list. (I’m posting this here because I don’t see MSM in the list of schools at the top of this forum, perhaps because it is still so new?).
Just venting a little and I know many of you have been through this. D received merit scholarships of $14,000-$18,000 from every school she was academically accepted to. (all out of state so desperately needed the aide) Still awaiting talent awards from each.
Except her favorite!! We had to complete a very extensive second application for this academic scholarship and she more than qualified. Just found out she is not even invited to interview for it. Still waiting on MT notification and talent award but so disappointed! I understand this school had many academically talented kids apply but I wanted all her hard work in hs,academically, leadership, and service to be rewarded and recognized. We were also forewarned by many here that this school does not really give aide to out of staters so I dont know if that played a part. Just disappointed. Praying lesser merit or talent awards come through for this school.
@Joyfulmama, I know we all want our kids to be ecstatically happy and rewarded when they work hard, but try hard not to focus on one school. I know it is hard, but you risk setting yourself and your child up for such disappointment in this crazy competitive game. Celebrate the rewards she does get that she wholeheartedly deserves!!! Think of anything else as being “redirected” to where she is meant to have those lifetime memories, meet that special mentor, best friend, etc. I know you are just venting, but I hate to see your fabulous daughter hurt.
@Joyfulmama: Have you talked to the financial aid/scholarship people since you got this news? We talked to several schools with questions about other scholarship opportunities when not satisfied with our original offers. Several were able to direct us to other scholarship programs we had been unaware of at that same school. We did not realize until then that at many schools they don’t always consider you for all scholarship programs with your initial application. Most required additional applications. So definitely call and ask if there are other scholarships to which she should apply. Sometimes you may be able to stack several smaller awards to end up with quite a nice total in the end.
And if your D has lot of community service/leadership, there are a number of outside scholarship programs you may want to consider applying to as well. Things like AXA, Prudential Spirit of Community, Coca-Cola Scholars, Youth Services America and others may be worth looking into. Some of these can be pretty substantial. And look locally to see if there are community service/leadership scholarships given to graduating seniors. Our community had a number of them through various groups such as Rotary and different foundations. It’s a lot of work to apply to them all but can be worth it.
Hope it all works out. If I can be of help with the search for scholarship opportunities, feel free to PM me.
@Calliene Thank you!! I know of course that you are so right. She does have another school that she is fully in, she likes and who gave her substantial money.I think she would also be very happy there. It is just I was hoping she would have options artistically, academically and financially. Yep, I want it all lol!
I dont share this concern with her, I just tell her she will wind up where she is meant to be and that we need to wait quite a while before we have all the pieces to the puzzle and can choose. But with you guys I can say UGH I hate the wait!!
@vvnstar Yes I believe she is now placed in the regular pool for other merit awards, just not as much offered.
Thank you so much for all the information on other opportunities. CShe has many hours of service because of her honors choral group and her NHS requirements. I have not heard of them at all and will do some research today! Thank you also for your offer to help!
