What’s the 2021 acceptance rate going to be? Is there any way to find out?
They will post statistics in June probably
Does anyone know how many people applied? I know they had an increase of 2.5k applicants from last year for the EA round—not sure about anything else, though.
@guitar321 i heard 58k not sure though
hm. i heard it was around 60k but my reasoning might be needed to be taken with a grain of salt. howd you hear that? @Eeeee127
@guitar321 someone posted an email that said that but then my friend who works in admissions said that umich received like 10,000 more apps than last year and had to cancel a holiday party because they were so behind on apps. she might have been exaggerating on the 10k part.
dang @Eeeee127 10k seems like a lot more. 58 is only 3k more than last year
The acceptance rate will be anywhere from as low as 25% and as high as 27%.
While not acceptance numbers, these numbers were put up at Campus Day regarding the incoming class averages:
ACT: 31
SAT: 1450
GPA: 3.9
@098123Student On the old or new SAT? 1450 on the new SAT would be much lower than how it has been historically…
A 1450 in the new SAT translates into roughly a 1410 on the old SAT (M+V), which is similar to past year Michigan averages (1390-1400 in 2015 and 2016.
@Alexandre also how are you sure that it’ll be between 25 and 27 and not be any higher/lower?
Michigan will likely admit 15,000-16,000 students, and Michigan probably received 58,000-60,000 applications. Of course, Michigan may admit fewer than 15,000 and/or may have received more than 60,000 applications, but I doubt it either way. I guess we will know for sure in January/February 2018, when the Common Data Set is released.
@Alexandre when will the acc. rate be really low
I understand Michigan is done expanding. In which case, the admit rate will drop going forward. However, Michigan will likely level off at 20%…or 15% at the lowest. Let us not forget that regardless of how many OOS and international students apply, Michigan’s in-state applicant pool cannot increase. It has remained constant at 10,000 for the last 30 years. Michigan has reduced in-state enrollment from 65% to 55% in that period, but will probably not drop much lower than that. As such, the in-state applicant pool will remain around 50-55%, regardless. The OOS/international applicant acceptance rate is already around 20% and will likely drop this year to 16%-18% this year. Naturally, those are just rough estimates. Michigan does not publish exact figures when it comes to in-state and OOS acceptance rates. However, the overall admit rate will likely drop a little going forward and will likely level off either at 20% or 15% in the next 4-5 years.
And freshman class size has been creeping up a tad over the past ten years, but I don’t see UofM expanding the freshman class much more and they have probably got it down to a science how many admits yield how many enrollments as well as profiles of OSS and Intl students that accept an offer of admission, so the only thing impacting numbers are the number of applications which soared with the check the box common app and that will level out. Instate is probably even clearer since UofM meets need for in-state while other unis in Michigan don’t guarantee that. The crapshoot instate kids who comprise probably a fairly insignificant number of the totals are the cream of the crop that have no need…and can go anywhere they choose.
Michigan will need to build another dorm for expansion, and Bursley+Baits are both due for renovation, so it is going to be awhile. When one of the dorms goes off line I’d expect a drop in the number of incoming freshmen.

58590 applicants for the Class of 2021, and admissions were offered to “more than 14000 students.”
If we interpret this statement as the fact that admissions offers did not exceed 14,999 students, then that puts the acceptance rate anywhere between 24% and 25.5%
Thoughts?
wow a 3% decrease acceptance rate is kinda a lot especially since they accepted less people this year.
Does it sound realistic? @Eeeee127
