I am starting this to piggy back off of a similar discussion in the Musical Theater forum. We can start it off letting others know where your S or D has already applied and if they have gotten any acceptances yet.
I will start! My D is using MTCA as her coach. She has applied to way too many schools but I will take the blame for that! Here’s the list:
American U - Auditioned BA
CalArts
Carnegie Mellon
Chapman
Cornish (they contacted her and asked if she wanted to audition at Unifieds so we added it last minute)
Elon - passed prescreen but she may drop it
Florida State - passed prescreen and accepted academically
Loyola Marymount - accepted!
Pace U - passed pre-screen and accepted academically
Point Park - accepted academically
Rutgers - accepted academically to School of Arts and Sciences
SUNY Purchase
UNCSA
U of Alabama (non audition safety) - accepted
U of Alabama Birmingham (non-audition safety) - accepted
University of CA (Irvine, San Diego, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara)
U Minnesota
USC
University of Tampa
University of Washington (non-audition safety)
The New School - applied Common app but didn’t finish supplement yet
U Miami - did not pass prescreen
Ithaca - did not pass prescreen
Penn State - Applied to the school but didn’t get the 5 page research paper pre-screen in on time
Hi! D applied to Wright State (MT), Carnegie Mellon, Ohio University (non audition safety), and Otterbein (BFA Acting). Passed the prescreen for Otterbein the same weekend as her Wright State audition (11/5). Accepted academically to Wright State and OU. Had her Otterbein audition (first choice) 12/10. Was accepted that day. So… we are done!!!
@marg928 did your D decide not to apply to Juilliard?
@theatermom16 - congrats!! Now you can relax and enjoy senior year!
Thanks @toowonderful ! It was the perfect Christmas present!
@bfahopeful I got the feeling she wanted to apply to Juilliard just to say she did so I nudged her away. Her MTCA coach really wanted her to but when I looked at their schedule of call backs I realized it would take up too much time for such a small chance of getting in. Plus I really can’t see her being happy at a school like that. I think UNCSA and Purchase are on the same level even though the names don’t carry the prestige…and she fell in love with Purchase so ultimately did not apply to Juilliard. We certainly have enough schools anyway!
@marg928 makes sense.
My D applied to 13 schools , passed all the pre- screens and was accepted academically to the ones that required it … Most auditions will be done at Chicago Unifieds in Feb…One Early action school ( New School ) and was just accepted there . Very excited for her.
My D is doing almost all auditions at NY Unifieds and that following week through the next weekend. Consortium schools are the weekend after NY Unifieds and a couple of schools are doing during the week which I found strange. And then USC is coming to NY 2/5. Elon is the only one we’re not sure what to do about. They invited her to audition 2/3 on campus so it would have to be a quick overnight so she can be back for USC on Sunday. It may just be too much and she lost interest in the school somewhere along the line, which I found disappointing.
Screamplay, when did your D audition for/hear from The New School? (If you don’t mind my asking.) Thanks.
I got three more auditions scheduled today all in one weekend! UNCSA, Rutgers and Purchase all the weekend of 1/28 in NY! The New School is the only loose end…my D still didn’t do the supplement.
Break a leg @marg928. Exciting weekend.
If anyone is auditioning for Hartt here’s a heads up…after my daughter’s audition they asked her what other plays the author of her monologue had written…threw her completely off…be prepared.
I’m auditioning for seven schools in NYC over those two weekends in January. Also applied to Vassar and Northwestern. I was accepted academically at University of Minnesota in late November. So glad someone made this thread!
Also, has anyone else noticed that the Rutgers and University of Minnesota callback weekends are the same? Has this ever been a problem in the past?
Not sure if both Rutgers and Guthrie callbacks were the same date in prior years or not. I do know Guthrie will accept a video if unable to make callbacks. BAL to you!
Hi @Isaroo My Daughter is also auditioning over the two weekends in NYC and she also received her academic admit to U Minn this weekend! I had not noticed that the Rutgers and Guthrie callbacks are the same weekend… she is also applying to both those schools so I guess we shall see! Could be a problem for sure but since we live in NJ she will probably decide to NOT go to the Rutgers call back if she had to choose LOL.
Hello all! I have had two acting auditions so far. Baldwin Wallace BFA in Acting and VCU BFA in Performance. In January I have UNCSA on 1/14. I will be at NY Unifieds on Jan 21 &22 so I think I will try to do some Acting walk-ins for Montclair State and Point Park… (maybe Otterbein too) It should be fun! I’m excited to meet other people!
You’re right @Isaroo they are the same weekend. I checked and misread it and thought they were not…but I was wrong! Both are first weekend in March.
Yeah… it seems really weird. There must be a lot of people who are called back at both, since they have fairly similar programs.
