GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!
GPA pretty low, SAT is on the lower end. Pretty low chances overall. I would not ED here if you are only doing it because you think it will help you get in.
@anxiousenior1 Do you have any idea where I could ED, to more of a reach school, that’s well known for engineering? Cornell maybe?
You would have a better chance at Cornell, but your GPA really brings you down. Although they will take into account that you are in the top 10%, engineering at Cornell is still pretty competitive. Your SAT score fits within the 50th percentile. Why are you so set on an ED school?
@anxiousenior1 Any other ideas? No, I am not set, but I just wanna find a new school that is reputable and hope to get in ED, since it would be a bit of a reach to me. In other words, I want an ED school to be a the best caliber school I apply to reputation wise. Please let me know if you have any ideas.
Not super familiar with engineering programs that aren’t at the highest levels, but I would look at Cal Poly Slo.
@anxiousenior1 Not necessarily top engineering, but like a good reputation in general, such as GATech, UCLA,USC,etc. Cal Poly SLO is not something I would commit myself to, as there are better schools I am applying to.
Sounds like you answered your own question
By the way, http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/engineering-no-doctorate
Cal Poly SLO is ranked #7 in Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs Rankings in USNWR
There is a chance of getting admitted ED, but I think it is probably unlikely from what I see here. That is just my opinion. I could be wrong.
@Much2learn how high do you think percentage wise that chance is?
@mathfan21 I really have no way to know exactly what the odds are.
In general, 8 B’s and 2 C’s is more than usual. Your SAT is within the Penn range, but below average. Subject tests are not outstanding for Penn. Given that, in my opinion, you would probably need a stand out EC of some kind, or one of the best essays that admissions has ever received. However, there is really no way to be sure except apply. Only Dean Furda can tell for sure.
Good engineering options where I think you would have a much better chance would include Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Tech, Case Western Reserve, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Purdue.
@Much2learn What about Duke ED? How is the reputation of their engineering school?
@Mathfan21 Duke has an excellent engineering school, but it is almost as difficult to get into as Penn is.
I think that would be a long shot too. Have you looked at Carnegie Mellon?
@Much2learn CMU seems like too much of a trade school to me:( plus financial aid isn’t the best.
@mathfan21 What about Case Western Reserve or Georgia Tech?
@Much2learn I have looked into EA at GATech
Any ivy, or comparable school, will simply NOT be easy for anyone to get into at all. Early may seem like it’s easier to get in but remember, many athletic recruits, legacies, or extremely overqualified VERY special cases, apply to these schools early and take up many of these spots, not leaving too many for the “normal” applicants, and your stats are lower than the average for these schools in the first place. Not to say you have no chance, you can always try to help with essays and ECs, but odds aren’t good for anyone with regards to getting in to these schools (besides special cases mentioned before). Like people have said before, try to mix in some more match schools, don’t stay set on Penn, Duke, Cornell etc. Be open to places like CMU and Cal Poly SLO they’re great schools!
Case Western and RPI are good options for the OP. What about Drexel? Rice? Vanderbilt? Michigan?
