D got accepted EA for Fall 2018 instead of Fall 2017. This is the new guaranteed sophomore transfer option that no one even knew was an option.
Did anyone else get this? Thoughts? It means spending one full year at another college before attending NU.
Disappointed even though she got the program she wanted (environmental science). Would have preferred NUin
One person got this from ED if you go through the old posts you will see.
Frankly, I am surprised to see this and generally advise against these types of programs anywhere if you have comparable options. If it is a significantly better option than others, certainly consider it, though. No matter what, focus on your freshman school. I would not recommend transferring from that school if you are satisfied in most areas. I truly wish you the best of luck in your whole admissions process!
skeptile, thank you for your reply. I found the ED candidate that you mentioned around page 30-ish of the ED/EA discussion thread and we messaged each other. Same exact offer made for Fall 2018 guaranteed sophomore transfer. So far we are the only two that I know of. I wonder if there are or will be others? Good advice PengsPhils. Much to consider.
i also wanted to mention that upon reflection I realize that this most resembles a rejection, not an acceptance. I think that both the original poster and I saw what we wanted to see initially. I will say that NUâs approach is really confusing and the accompanying paperwork seems crafted to be less than explicit.
Like @PengsPhils I do not like the âguaranteed sophomore transferâ decision possibility but as I have posted earlier it has been offered for several years by Boston University and Cornell University and probably other colleges too. Essentially you must enroll at another university, take appropriate courses for your major and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. If a student is happy at their freshman college then s/he should remain there.
Last spring a Northeastern freshman posted here that she had received a guaranteed transfer option from Cornell. She liked Northeastern and Boston and had made a good social adjustment but her mother was pressuring her to transfer Cornell. She never posted a followup though.
I heard that there were multiple choice questions as a part of the application this year, one of which âdo you want to be considered for NUin?â If applicant answered no, maybe theyâre offering this instead to people they wouldâve given NUin. Just a theory.
Yes, we are feeling the same â and thanks for offering your two cents. I researched the BU and Cornell guaranteed transfer options a bit for comparison. They seem very similar except that NU did not give an explicit admission decision so it was very confusing about what exactly was being offered. My understanding is, at least at Cornell, the transfer option comes coupled with a rejection. The letter from NU is so confusing. No "we regret to inform you you have not been offered admission but thereâs this other thing ⊠" Itâs like there is one key sentence missing from the opening paragraph. Itâs an implicit rejection more or less, but they pretty much skip right to âhereâs the good newsâ so D does not understand that she was rejected, but thatâs ok. The transfer option remains the same regardless of what we call it. What we do with it ultimately, I donât know at this point. Donât love the ethics, though, of not giving kids an explicit admissions decision on their application either way.
ptkid16, D selected yes for NUin. But, I heard they were not offering NUin EA but not sure if that rumor panned out or not.
