My daughter has submitted most of her applications and will be finishing the rest soon. Now we wait for decisions. It doesn’t seem to be bothering her but is driving me crazy. She received a few acceptances already but still waiting to hear about most.
My kid got into UNLV Honors College for Hospitality (Hotels & Casino) with full scholarship for all costs. Hey, you need a back-up right? Hope he doesn’t end up gambling more than he studies, if he ends up going there.
My daughter has been accepted so far to Temple on yesterday and applied early action on 10/31 and Pitt acceptance received on 11/21 applied 10/29. Pre-med/ Neuroscience major.
Congrats to all that have been accepted somewhere
Gosh I cannot believe admissions are coming already! How the world has changed. DD and I are nail biting for Stanford REA, due out next Friday. As other moms/dads have posted, they (the kids) seem to be ok waiting whereas I feel like I haven’t slept in at least a month! UGH. Thank goodness for this website. Kate
D accepted tonight in 1st round of Denison University letters to go out. Alumni Merit Schoalship!
D has 5 acceptances so far… She applied everywhere 10/1
U Tampa (Honors Program) with good scholarship $$$ - received October 12
U Hartford - with good scholarship $$$$ - received mid-October
Central CT State University (safety) - accepted mid-October
Towson University - accepted in-person at Open House 11/10 (merit awards don’t come out until March 2017)
Quinnipiac University - accepted into 7 year Bachelors Athletic Training/Doctorate Physical Therapy Program 11/2 with great scholarship $$$ renewable for all 7 year
Still waiting on:
Marquette - 5 year Bachelors/Masters Athletic Training
Springfield College
Ithaca College
U Delaware
U Connecticut
Top choices right now are Marquette, Quinnipiac, Towson and Tampa. Marquette and Quinnipiac have better programs (she is leaning that way, I think) but she liked the campuses and feel of Towson and Tampa too. Ithaca and Springfield are still in the mix too. Just happy she has been accepted at schools she will be very happy at. The decision process may be harder than the waiting!!!
Wonderful acceptances @Hangdog ! Our kid has overlaps with your list, do you feel comfortable sharing her stats?
My dad went to Marquette, and the Quinnipiac program sounds amazing.
@Hangdog -Congratulations on her acceptances. If she has direct entry into both AT and PT at Quinnipiac, in addition to scholarships for all 7 years, that is a huge advantage. No worrying over having to get accepted to either program or feeling competitive with classmates.
@oldbrookie , happy to share her stats - not sure if this is what you’re looking for, but here’s the best picture I can provide. Her weak spot is her ACTs.
GPA: 3.87 weighted
High School: Private, Catholic, College Prep (more competitive than local public schools)
ACT: 26 (she does NOT do well at all on standardized tests)
Recommendations from Math teacher and Science teacher, plus 1 Athletic Trainer and 1 Physical Therapist with whom she had performed 25+ shadow hours each
Honors/Awards: National Honor Society and multiple academic awards
EC’s: 3 season varsity athlete (Soccer, basketball, Track), Student Tutor, Yearbook Photographer, Junior Achievement
Volunteer/Community Service: lots of service hours, including Special Olympics, Soccer program for Autistic Athletes, Activities volunteer with mentally disabled adults
Thanks @taskmstrx! AT will soon require a Masters, so she is grappling with whether or not a Bachelors is sufficient. We know it is enough to take her certification exam (the new rules come into play a couple years after she would graduate). I think a Bachelors with a DPT would make her very competitive but she is wondering if she needs the Masters and the DPT. Marquette has the 5 year Masters program, and you can apply into their DPT in your junior year getting a Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate in 7 years. Like you pointed out, though, that is another application process.
Thank you!
@oldbrookie, would you mind sharing what schools your S or D is applying to? Also in AT/PT?
@hangdog - if the end goal is the DPT, then a BS should be fine in AT. She’ll be a certified AT either way. And I’ll emphasize again that guaranteed entry should be an important factor in her decision . Competition for the DPT spots is pretty stiff.
Hi @Hangdog, the kid I am researching for is actually a HS junior who hasn’t decided what she wants to focus on yet. Her interests are really kind of all over the place at the moment and physical therapy is only one of several possibilities. I guess what I’m trying to say is right now we have the great big honking list which we plan to hone and whittle down over the next few months.
The schools we are thinking about specific to PT are Quinnipiac and Ithaca. Hearing your kids stats was very helpful to me because it benchmarks what is needed for success if she pursues this route.
She is also considering English and/or communications as possible areas of focus. Yeah, I know, kind of mutually exclusive. But since I still haven’t figured out what I want to be when I grow up, I am ok with this. For this concentration the possibles are Mt. Holyoke, Dickinson, Emerson, Clark, St. Mary’s, Washington College, Lafayette, St. Lawrence.
Other schools we are thinking about just in general are University of Delaware, University of Pittsburgh, University of Rochester, University of Vermont, Loyola.
My S received acceptance from Tulane - 6 days after he sent in the app. That’s efficiency!
@bigred1985: Where’s the Facebook-style “WOW!” reaction (to go alongside like and helpful) when you need one?
My S was accepted yesterday to Honors Program at University of Kansas. Also accepted at Ole Miss (filling out honors college application there) and Missouri State University. He already has scholarships from all three. Awaiting news from several (expensive) private colleges. But at least he has choices.
DS was offered a seat at the Kelly school of business (Indiana U.) with some merit scholarship and an invitation to its honor college is now waiting for his ED.
My son was accepted yesterday - out of state - to Texas A&M’s College of Engineering! : ) Hooray!
@Mommymo
Woah! congrats… ED or RD though? Denison is a top school for me, haven’t heard anything yet. Stats?
