Class of 2021 Scholarship Discussion/Results

thanks for the info @JemmaSimmons! I’m still going to cross my fingers, but if the interview dates are indeed later, I won’t get my hopes up for this week too much

I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up, including my own, but I’m pretty sure scholarship decisions will come out this Friday.

I have a gut feeling it will be this friday too @ap012199

Do u guys think a 34 superscore ACT is too low to be considered for scholarships?

@ap012199 Me, too. And no, I think a 34 will put you right where you need to be if you have great essays. I think the essays probably matter a lot.

@JemmaSimmons yeah, although I don’t expect to get one because of how horrendously hard it is to get become a finalist in the first place. Plus I submitted my scholarships the day of the deadline lol

I spent a lot of time on my essays and applied to 4-5 scholarships. Also an Emory Scholar Finalist so hoping for good news from Wash U.

Anyone know how popular the Howard Nemerov writing scholarship is? I feel like it’s pretty niche, but idk for sure.

@Harryp17 & @ap012199, just curious: What makes you so convinced about this Fri? Is there a precedent for Fri before the President’s Day?!

@CollegeDadTX that has always been the release date in past years.

applied only for Langsdorf (which I assume is ridiculously hard to get, considering that they only accept 10 people), but I can’t make the Scholar’s weekend anyways so I don’t know why I applied.

@scarletwitchx at least it shows interest. After I applied to scholarships I found out I applied to one that had 10 spots and one that had 4 lol RIP

@scarletwitchx It’s ok, Langsdorf is really my only shot, too. I applied to Danforth, as well, but that’s just so competitive that I don’t really think I have a shot. I’m just stressed because I’ve let my ability to go to my first choice school up to the chance of getting a 10-person scholarship.

Hi everyone -

Was reading past threads and came across something that might be helpful for all of us that are (im)patiently waiting for scholarship notifications. If you create a MyUPS account inputting your information exactly as it appears on your application, you can pull up a calendar that lets you know in advance if shipments (like the accepted student packet and the scholarship acceptance packet) are coming from the admissions office and on what day. This is confirmed accurate through last year’s (2020) RD thread and scholarship thread; those that were able to see a package coming from the day before were accepted the next day.

Currently my calendar is blank, but WashU seems to mail their decisions through 2-day priority. My best guess (emphasis on G U E S S) is that if scholarships are indeed released this Friday, you can use the UPS site to know earlier as soon as Thursday, maybe even Wednesday. Even if the scholarships aren’t Friday, the UPS site will still be beneficial for whenever they are announced for real, as well as for the RD round of admissions.

Take all of this with a grain of salt (who knows if they’re using a different method/system of sending this year), but I thought I’d share. Extremely anxious over here, WashU is one of my top choices :-SS

@sirhcgled is it UPS or USPS? UPS is a private company that ships packages. USPS is the United States Postal Service and has things like Priority Mail.

@Dolemite UPS. It’s a free service called MyUPS that allows you to track packages to your address

OK but sentences like the above made it confusing. You ship packages via UPS and they have 2 Day Air- you mail via USPS and they have Priority Mail which is 2-3 Days. USPS also has a MyUSPS.

@sirhcgled Idk about you, but I got an email about a week ago from WashU that said that they no longer were doing any paper communications, and that all decision notifications would be made through the portal. This might mean that the UPS trick is no longer valid. I can’t say so for sure, though, as I have no experience with that.

@JemmaSimmons is WashU your first choice?

My guess is that they WILL still be using UPS for acceptance packages. I got that email too, but I’m pretty sure it just means that we will be able to see our results though our portal before anything comes through the mail. I don’t know of any colleges who don’t send acceptance packages to accepted students…
