Not To be whatever but… oh wait I will be whatever… has anyone been just a teensy bit annoyed that MT admissions and the process and the notifications and the emails and the letters blah blah are akin to a top secret high security military operation?
@MomofMTBoy - Someone shared that email- way I read it was decisions will be available on the portal for everyone starting March 30th and that decisions would be available via phone April 3rd (meaning you could call and they would be able to release a decision to you over the phone- which most schools don’t do). At least that is the way I interpreted it. Maybe @toowonderful has some insight for you?
Thanks everyone. Yes. NYU will “release decisions over the phone on April 3rd.” Upon second reading that doesn’t mean they will be calling everyone, but that you can call in for your decision. Is that for people who are averse to signing on to a website? Who needs to call NYU anymore if they have a portal and a login. I wonder if that is a holdover from days when people didn’t use computers? That is so odd… and I must say it would be nice to have a common app type form for schools to release information on acceptance, rejection, and WL. Weird when some people find out one way and others find out another way from the same school? Or when a school writes a letter and you have to read it 3x to determine if your kid is in or not.
Thanks for all the input on Temple. I guess I will wait until my D can talk to someone in Theatre to see what their insight is on financial aid. I know they were touting the fact that they were affordable when she did her walk-in in Chicago, but from what I see thru her portal the base price is 40K+ for OOS.
I would love to hear overall impressions from anyone who is able to visit in the near future!
@KelviVan yes, $40k is about right, WITH housing. I think the base tuition this year is $26 then about $12k for housing. This is still less than so many programs, even for OOS. But, it is definitely still a LOT of money. The running theme for the kids around here is “follow the money” and go where the scholarships are. Of course this is so much more difficult for theatre kids! Hopefully you can call the financial aid office and see if they can get you a little more money.
So frustrating waiting on 8 schools and it’s the end of March Like you @theaterwork , just want D to have time to enjoy what’s left of senior year. Thank goodness she is so immersed in her upcoming spring musical to keep her quite busy.
@MomofMTBoy I believe Boco comes out April 1.
Son got an email Monday that they were finalizing things but were missing his official transcript- yikes! Not sure how that happened.
@MomofMTBoy and @aquarose26, my D got that same email from NYU. The way I read it, once the student receives the email on 3/30 with unique link, they can login to see decision. Beginning 4/3, the admissions office will give out decisions by phone - if student calls them. I don’t think they’ll be calling everyone. Email was from NYU admissions, not Tisch specific. Seems like main point of this email was schedule update and to be sure prospective students had their logins setup so all goes smoothly on 3/30. Good luck everyone!
I feel for all of you going through this now … last year my daughter and I were happy one day, sad the next, then happy again … crazy process. In the end, it all worked out the way it was supposed to. I do want to start a campaign to get all the MT programs to go to a standardized audition process … it shouldn’t have to be so confusing.
All NYU undergraduate applicants are supposed to get their decision on 3/30 via email/ link. But considering there were over 67,000 applicants, through experience they know that there are going to be some snafus. So they will give out decisions to desperate students by phone beginning 4/3.
We are in the same boat with 0 acceptances, 2 WL and a few redirects, lots of academic acceptances. Between all the colleges on her initial list and the panicky add ons and the walk ins we felt pretty good but alas! She is warming up to her BA but I think at this point my D wants an acceptance just for validation of her talent. When her face falls after opening another rejection, I tell her one of the stories I read on CC. Just to let her know she’s not alone and there’s hope. Never underestimate the power of a community!! So deeply grateful and thankful
Tell her that her WL’s are a validation that she has talent! They see something in her that they feel she would fit into their program. It’s hard not to think that a BFA admittance is the proof that you’ve got what it takes. But it’s not. Truly not.
