@sopranomtmom We are in the same boat. We live in California, so traveling to the east coast is very time consuming. My son also missed so much school with unifieds and only one on-campus audition that the idea of missing more school is not very exciting. He is also rehearsing for his spring musical and tech week starts April 9! Shows are the end of April. My son may have to choose his college sight-unseen. Scary thought!
@CATenorMom did you ever hear from American? I heard some kids got their letters earlier this week but nothing here.
Yes, he got an acceptance packet yesterday with a scholarship offer. I know there was talk of the letter not being acceptance into MT, but he got a very nice, separate letter from the Theater department. They even gave him feedback on his audition, the only school that did.
Just a point of clarification…Syracuse MT’s can go abroad for a semester, and they highly encourage summer stock, in fact there were specific summer stock auditions at Syracuse. But they also support what each student needs/wants to do so if summer stock isn’t what they want/can do, there is no pressure or guilt.
On a different note, I hope your students can visit the schools they are most interest in and specifically the drama department. I would avoid admitted student days and go as an individual if at all possible. Really getting to spend a full day, or more, visit with students, classes, see a performance or sit in on a rehearsal makes such a difference!!
And, all these programs are run by humans…may yours land where they will be challenged and nurtured!!
Does anybody know if Pace Acting and MT decisions come separately, or combined into one letter for students who auditioned for both? I know that BFA Acting and BFA FTVC come combined, but am wondering about the acting - mt decision combo…
@MTTwinsinCA I love, love, love your post! I have been very low key about this entire process - because this is not my process, this is my daughters process. I help facilitate college visits, auditions and give my opinion about what I hear and see, but at the end of the day it is HER decision. And, where she decides to commit on May 1st may not be where she graduates from. Her path is her path - I can only be a support system for her and offer advice if/when needed. Do I personally think my D should have considered other schools? Absolutely! Do I think there were schools that were definitely a reach? Absolutely! However, I am not the one going to college - she is and as we looked at her very small list of schools based in the Mid-Atlantic/Northeastern Region I said to her “go big or go home” (which doesn’t really mean come home if you don’t get into a program - it means go to your Plan B - which is not a gap year!)
For people new to this board or who will be going through this process soon, there is some very good information on this board, but it can also be very overwhelming. Everyone’s experience is going to be very different and the best you can do is gather the information you need to help your kid make a decision that is right for them. Also, there is always a lot of back and forth about a BFA vs. BA - as many wise people have already posted on this page at the end of the day when your kids are standing in front of an audition table - they are not going to care if they have a BFA or a BA on their resume- they are judging them based on there talent. There are a lot of great schools out there that have BA programs - don’t overlook them based on another letter Peace and Good Luck!
@actingbee have student email Wayne Petro in Pace Performing Arts admissions and ask – he is exceedingly nice and helpful and will be able to answer that question.
@marg928 visiting campuses is a huge deal i agree. But I also found that they actually started to blend together. I feel that in all actuality small “city” schools are very similar. Most classes help in one building in similar size classroom. Usually one area of common area and dorms are either above classes in higher floors or in a building close by. A school that is rural will encompass of course a campus. I think the feel you fit maybe the teachers, or the directors of the program. I feel that the auditions that my son loved are also the schools that he loved. Maybe not everyone is the same, but it would be hard to choose with out seeing the campus and being on it but if you had too then go with the gut feeling from the people that were met at the audition. Also all the directors we met suggested calling as we got closer to answer any questions. You will get one on one time then too.
@actingbee My d applied for all three and all three were mentioned in her letter.
@mmm333 did the letter say she was accepted to all? I thought they made you choose over the phone. My D’s said “based on your auditions for BFA acting and Acting FTVC we are offering you acceptance into FTVC…”
@mmm333 No, she was not accepted in all three. The letter referenced all three because she applied for all three. Earlier, she was called and told she was being considered for the two acting options and was asked which was her preference. She was accepted into Acting, which was her preference.
Still no word from Webster. Fingers are still crossed! I guess no news means there’s still hope? Or does it mean that we live on the West Coast and mail takes forever?!
I live less than ten miles from Webster, and I still haven’t heard anything, so maybe they are still making decisions. I hope you get good news soon!
I would say that’s a good sign re: Webster. We got our rejection letter Monday(?) and we are 2 1/2 hours away.
Anyone heard from Syracuse today? I thought round two was going out today but I haven’t seen anyone posting.
Yes, we got a denial email about an hour and a half ago. I’ve seen others post who got the same.
Because it is Friday night, there are a pile of theatre teens on my couch watching Pitch Perfect … this I will miss when my S heads out to college.
@efr9598 Love that. I will miss D coming home from rehearsal after everyone’s gone to bed and singing at the top of her lungs while searching for food.
Do not go there or we will all be crying.
Omg @freddieggirl the never ending food search after rehearsal! Will miss that too!
Can’t imagine coming home to an empty house…
the silence will be deafening =((
