Be prepared for that parenting light switch to go off…it’s heartbreaking
@bisouu as the parent of an only child I am literally dreading this fall. I’m excited for my D and for all the new things she’ll be doing but I’m dreading September. Can’t lie. I feel like the job I’ve had for 18 yrs just let me go…
@theaterwork I have an only as well…after 3 years of empty nest it has not gotten any easier. Having her 3,000 miles away sucks…
My daughter is a Freshman … I really miss all those “free concerts” she would give me as she sang around the house. Also - I miss the performances/shows … I haven’t seen her in a show for a year now. I get to go to her school to watch her in a musical next week - can’t wait!!
Oh my @bisouu and @theaterwork , I have three but the MT kid and only girl just left for college this last September. All 3 went miles away and I still miss the first as much as the last. My third a bit easier to stay in touch with as she is the only girl and much more inclined to text:) But it is hard.
For those of us with older kids - my art history BA will be boomeranging home this summer…
“shower concerts” were a thing at my house. If you tell my boys I might have secret audio of it I’ll deny it.
Same with us @actingbee My daughter was accepted to PACE comm dance program back in Nov and then auditioned for Pace mth at unifieds - she really wants/needs a mth program to catch up with all these talented singers/actors! Pace was one of her top 2 choices and with the nice package they offer - made them her most probable choice (assuming she gets into the other top choice) She emailed Amy a couple weeks back just to confirm that “although she had received the dance offer - mth was her 1st choice” She got a reply from Wayne (not Amy) telling her “the faculty talked and decided comm dance was the best fit for you”. She held out hope for at least a “waitlist letter” We got the follow up letter today saying the same thing - “based on your aud for Mth and dance, we are offering you dance” She is crushed - she knows she isn’t the best but felt confident since they already liked her. It makes me wonder if they don’t want to compete with themselves. I could be wrong, but I question if auditioning for Pace - you are better off only auditioning for the one you prefer. In some ways just getting that “rejection letter” or “waitlist” is at least some kind of feedback of what they thought of your audition. Jmho but I think they deserve that rather than glossing over it. Obviously this is a rejection letter but somehow it feels different. Her teachers at school are saying go for a year for dance - they will love her, re-audition for mth and transfer her soph year. I’m not sure how I feel about this. Any thoughts or opinions on that are welcomed! She did get accepted to Roosevelt mth/d and is WL for Penn St mth and Tx State mth too! Still waiting on a few more but at least she has some options so we really are thankful:)
The only child off to college thing would make my top ten list for rough things. Overall, I would say that the BFA process was more stressful… but not having her there was harder. Joyful and exciting and wonderful- but really freakin’ hard. My advice - if you don’t have a dog- get a dog. My “fuzzy baby” snuggles saved me more than one time!
Love the reference to “shower concerts!” We will miss that too.
@DallasSMB - I actually just mentioned this on another thread, but transferring into Pace MT (if you have been rejected once) is near to impossible. Wayne told that to us last year. People can only audition for Pace 2x and he said that if we denied you once then the chance of getting in at a second audition is not likely going to happen. Just wanted to make sure you were aware as since your D has other options, I would hate for her to put all her eggs in the Pace basket with that information.
Is there anyone else that has a waitlist at Univ of the Arts? My D is on their waitlist but literally knows not one person that’s on it. Everyone has either gotten a yes or no. …plus letter says they’d let her know something by April 1? Confused…
@LBSMOM I agree with your post this weekend we are going to see a friends daughter in the national tour of 42nd street. She is a dancer that went to school for social work go figure. I think in the end you either have what they are looking for or you don’t and they are not looking at your BFA or BA. Its hard when your in it like we all are to not see the big picture. Its not personal its what they are looking for and it may not be you. This process is teaching us how big the competition is and that you need to grit to stay in the game.
Just checked Pace portal and saw this ominous message:
“A decision has been made and your official decision letter has been mailed to you.
Be patient, it will arrive shortly.Once you receive your official decision letter, should you have any questions, please contact us at the numbers listed below.”
Doesn’t sound good.
Hi, Any news on your D’s waitlist spot? We haven’t heard anything. Do you know if their waitlist is large?
Will will this really help? I hope so. We are in limbo as my D is on 3 waitlists!
Sorry @daughtersdreams
@daughtersdreams , are you waiting for an academic or artistic decision? The update you mention pertains to an academic decision, not artistic…
@actingbee Waiting for both. D auditioned 2/4 (for Acting) and haven’t heard a thing until I checked the portal tonight.
Thanks @marg928 - D has decided that she wants to pursue the MT acceptances she has. So Pace is out of the picture regardless of whatever that message means.
