Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

well we’re certainly not as far along as some others on here but managed to get three in by today’s deadline with supplements…Chapman, Loyola Marymount, and UMinn/Guthrie. My D is leaving for Ecuador/Galapagos tomorrow at 3 am so the rest will have to wait until she gets back! Most are almost done I’m just waiting on her to answer some more of the writing questions.

Audition season must officially be here-I had the “audition mishaps” nightmare last night: Lost cell phones, car troubles, forgotten items,…

D has third audition this Saturday . …only 5 maybe 6 more to go…

theaterwork

That is very impressive. You seem super organized! My daughter just got the majority of apps off (3 more maybe?) and we scheduled 8 auditions . We still have to send in prescreens for all the others. Shooting dance on Sunday and songs on Wed. I’m actually taking her out of school on Wed morning to shoot prescreen songsLong days at school and several hours of singing at rehearsals don’t lend to the voice being it’s best!! Rehearsals are on weekends too. Hopefully we will download right after… or soon after! what schools did you audition for already?? Amazed at your progress!

I’m getting PTSD reading all your posts! Good luck to all of you! Just breathe. It will be okay.

@theaterwork tell D we said break a leg! Next weekend we begin with D’s first 2 auditions.

Good Luck Everyone!!!

Just received my rejection from Shenandoah’s Prescreen. It didn’t hit me as hard as I thought it would have. Right now I’m looking into their BFA Acting program and so far I like what they have to offer! I may have to add it to my list!

Oof sorry @WhiteRaven1, what a way to start! I like your attitude though. On to the next, just like in the real world.

Onward and upward @WhiteRaven1 ! We live close to Shenandoah and I’ve heard great things about the acting program.
@musicmama123 we are on a smaller list then most people. Only on campus auditions , no Unifieds and only 8 auditions . D applied to 9
schools as one is a non audition safety. So we have it easier although it still seems overwhelming. I basically forced my D to apply to schools in August before school started because she goes to an arts high school and I knew the fall
would get away from us with shows etc . Still a problem getting dates because of conflicts with school. One school we asked if D could audition out of sequence because we were in the area and they agreed. The other one is a small school that had an early date available. This weekend we are at western Carolina. Plus we had no prescreen schools because the two we had ended up getting nixed. So we are just not doing as many. My D is ok with it so …

Hi there all crazy like me at this point my D is the lead in her school musical and we are so stressed out getting all the applications out. So far we have booked 4 auditions for unified in Chicago. Temple Monclair Point Park and CCM we are waiting on SU Ithica and Penn state. We are booked for Hartt in Jan and Emerson waiting on the decision (early action) it helped that she did there pre college so we did not have to prescreen. We have Wagner and Muhlenberg for safe schools for now. Wondering if we should add some more and happy we are ahead of the game at this point. Has anyone heard from SU yet?

@lincoln56 D heard from Syracuse last Wed. regarding prescreen. It was about 2 weeks after she sent it in.

@lincoln56 why is Wagner considered a safety school?

We are still waiting for Syracuse did your D pass prescreen?

no pre screen not a BFA

@lincoln56, Since Wagner is an auditioned program, it is not typically considered a “safe” school. And while Muhlenberg’s audition is strictly for scholarship $, it generally is considered academically selective for admission. It would depend on the applicant’s grades and test scores whether it could be considered a “safe” school or not. So, depending on your student, you may want to add a non-audition BA program which is not academically selective to your list?

You have a diverse list of auditioned programs you have applied too. All are competitive for admission. Since you will be in Chicago anyway, you may also want to do some walk-ins at Unifieds to explore more programs and options if time allows.

Of course, all of this may be a moot point if your EA application to Emerson is accepted  Best wishes to you with all!

I second @vvnstar in saying Wagner would not be a safety just because it’s not a BFA & there’s no prescreen…,CMU has no prescreen… lol just sayin and that ain’t no safety. BFA has nothing to do with whether a program is a safety…,my D has upcoming audition at a BA & it’s no safety trust me!

@lincoln56 yes, she passed.

Also, Wagner does academically prescreen kids for the MT program, and not every applicant is given an audition. My daughter was prescreened out last year from Wagner’s program, but, ironically, was accepted to the more academically competitive Muhlenberg. Which goes to show that nothing in this crazy business is a certainty, and little of it makes sense. Random and arbitrary were my two favorite words to describe it all. That being said, I’ve typed it before and I’ll type it again, for the most part KIDS WIND UP WHERE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE LONG RUN. So take heart. There’s light at the end of the tunnel.

^^^and if they don’t wind up in their happy place they can transfer
