@anitapitamom actually my D is a dancer first and foremost as she’s been dancing since the age of 3 competitively. She quit at the end of 10th grade to pursue acting and because she had an agent she needed to free up her schedule. She sings as well, however she is going for straight acting so it really doesn’t matter as far as her auditions go. I too like the idea of the BA. My D loves history and toys with the idea of majoring in anthropology or archaeology. It’s such a tough decision but bottom line, it’s not worth agonizing over. As long as they have a good mix of BAs, BFAs and non-audition schools on the list they can make an educated choice in the spring.
So far she has three auditions scheduled for Unifieds. Pace will be on campus in Feb. I’m so surprised the CMU is holding theirs in NY on a Wednesday afternoon. I expected it to be Unified weekend.
someone was asking for unified scheduling so far our D has 2 each day over 3 days she is MT so most have a dance call which is 2 schedulde times. She still needs to send in her application to Pace and u of Mich for next week. Her high school play is this weekend which has put a stall on our progress. So far shes passed all her prescreens but one Penn State which thankfully she does not care. We are doing 4 auditions on campus and may do NYC if needed.
I am thankfully feeling relaxed about this process now that we are scheduled.
Just found out the Football/Cheer banquet is January 20th OF COURSE! This is bad…as a senior it would be a shame to miss it after being a Varsity cheerleader since freshman year. Her first audition is 10:10 am on Saturday so I guess it’s doable but I had a room booked Friday night to make life easier…aaaarrrrgggghhhh!!!
@marg928 plans are for non-theater moms! wait till you’re trying to buy plane tickets for Christmas break and there’s one more audition before your kid really wants to leave (ka–ching, $400 more dollars).
@marg928 We had similar issues. First, nomination for homecoming queen, and then she didn’t want to miss Fall Ball so we flew her into Texas, she auditioned, flight landed in California at 3, and picked up by her date at 5! Thank goodness the time change worked in our favor! Good luck! They want to enjoy the perks of high school also. Difficult balance!
@anitapitamom wow that’s nuts! I won’t complain anymore since I only live an hour from NYC lol…I just hope we can fit in all the auditions in two days since Friday is now a bust!
My D was planning on applying to some UC schools…San Diego, Irvine and Santa Barbara. All non-audition and all very difficult to get into for an OOS student. I’m thinking now that maybe she should nix one of those and apply to UCLA since it’s audition based. Maybe she would have a better chance…thoughts?
@marg928 we do know a girl who was accepted into UCLA for theater and they feel her audition got her in as her stats, while ok, were not exceptional.
That said we also know someone who did not like the BA program there as they were initially bored in the classes (very basic high school theater 101stuff–but that person went to a rigorous PA high school with a curriculum that looks a lot like many college theater degrees - perhaps their case is an anomaly).
@marg928 Unfortunately, UCLA did away with their supplemental theatre application for Fall 2017. They will contact those they wish to audition by Dec 15 and ONLY THEN may you submit theatre resume, headshot etc. I’m assuming the students they wish to audition are those applicants with fantastic grades/test scores because they don’t have a supp app or prescreen for holistic review. UC app is due between Nov 1-30. UCI has a great theatre program.
@anitapitamom thanks for that info. So much for that idea! We took a vacation to Cali in August 2015 and did a tour at UCI but didn’t get to see the theater dept. I guess we’ll just keep it on the list.
Good news! I received an email from Kent state for a $13,000 scholarship if I attend my freshman year. I haven’t auditioned for MT yet but I know this combination will be hard to beat if I do get in! I also am back from BW and I loved every second there! I had a blast! When they same its the chillest audition you’ll ever have they mean it! I won’t go into too much detail but I had lots of fun! I had BM in MT yesterday and BFA in Acting today
Shenandoah was at my D’s top as well but I don’t know what we are going to do. The audition dates conflict with Chicago Unifieds and her Samford audition.
Belmont is probably at the top of her list. She is auditioning for the BFA in January.
@followurheart She got a yes. My D’s MT though-your D’s acting, right? She had prescreen requirements, I believe (though I have no clue what they were, lol)
@owensfolks, right you are! I did not realize MT prescreened at FSU because with acting my D can’t audition for that department until her second year. We keep wondering how long it will take to hear if she gets in academically. January I’m guessing.
