My D just checked her portal today, and it appears that she has been accepted to the university. Now she just needs to finish up her honors and Croft apps! First college acceptance - yay! I wonder when they send a paper acceptance.
Ole Miss is likely her choice, but it is currently #2 on her list. Number 1 is a financial reach. It will also greatly depend on honors and Croft acceptances.
No merit scholarships yet, I don’t think those notifications go out until December, and afterward. She is most likely going to be a NMF, so we won’t know about those scholarships until after February, when NM finalists are named.
GPA: 3.7/4/3 (unweighted/weighted)
Top 5% at competitive high school in Austin, TX
IB Diploma
Social Officer on Competitive Dance Team
National Merit Finalist (likely)
SAT: 1520
Decent EC’s - but IB and highly competitive dance team are demanding
@crazy4info If she’s a NMSF, then Ole Miss guarantees a full tuition and housing scholarship. Plus, full non-resident tuition. Finalist status will get her additional money. Then, she will compete for other campus scholarships. Croft and Honors both award a number of competitive scholarships. So, she will most likely have everything covered if she chooses Ole Miss which I hope she will.
I’ve been accepted! I applied biomedical engineering but actually am changing it to biology and planning on premed with a double major in economics and minor in Spanish. I also applied to SMBHC. 34 ACT, 3.98 unweighted/ 4.6 weighted GPA. Hoping to be in honors college, study abroad, do Greek life, and have a great time!
@crazy4info she plans to do it this week end. She is taking 6 AP classes and hardly has had downtime to concentrate on the application. OM is her first choice now bc of the NMF scholarship and others scholarship. It is cheaper than instate. So she wants to make sure her application is solid. We have visited 2x and loved it both times. And one time it was raining and still great visit!! Any idea if NMF is a solid chance for honor college?
@bama2000 I don’t know if honors is solid for NMF. I’ve asked this question, and @collegeguider said that it definitely made them a strong candidate. My daughter is a NMSF, as well, and I’m confident that she will be a finalist.
I agree with you – my daughter’s honors (and Croft) essays need to be solid. We’ve come so far, I’d like to see her get into both of these programs. Ole Miss has become my D’s #1 right now. We are from Texas, and we are extremely happy with all that Ole Miss offers in programming and scholarships.
If your D does honors, will she live in the honors dorms?
@crazy4info more than likely she will do honors dorms. She is thinking pre pharm maybe pre med at this point. Pharmacy has early entry and has an LLC for that. But we aren’t sure if it is easy or hard to get into that LLC. So hopefully she will do honors college and get one of the contemporary dorms. She looked at the croft program and has taken AP Spanish and did well on the exam but she wasn’t sure she wanted to commit to Spanish (or any language) every semester. But she may apply anyway. Right now she is overwhelmed with apps and school and senior year fun. But I think when things slow down and get more focused she will be glad she applied to croft. We are from Alabama by the way.
@longhaul - that’s what was stated on UM’s Admissions Instagram (I think it was there). And I just looked at the mail on the dining room table, and she does, indeed, have a large envelope which contained a Certificate of Admission, along with other information “what next” things.
@Windows16 – I can’t remember how long it was after transcripts were sent that we found out my D had been accepted. Have you looked up your application status on their app system? We found out that way long before we got anything in the mail.
My son applied before but the high school had not sent the transcript because of some computer issue at his high school. The transcript was finally sent around noon today so I doubt he has been accepted yet although you never know. He is going to apply early to the honors college so I was wondering when the other applications would open.
