Hey guys! I applied to UCSB, it’s my number one and I have hopes of getting in. I know I’m JUST below the 25th percentile for my GPA, but UCSB says essays are worth 50% and I hope they like mine.
My Stats:
-Intended Major: Mathematics
-California InState

  • UCGPA Capped: 3.74
  • HS GPA UW: 3.94 (avg is 3.96-4.2)
  • 10-11 GPA is 3.864
  • SAT 1250 (650 Math, 600 Language) 22 SAT Essay
  • Volunteer Hours: 120+ in school library (I explained that I really want to work on campus in a library or something of the sort)
  • Tutoring Club: We tutor before school 3 days a week and I’ve done this since sophomore year, I explained how this would help me become a teacher.
  • Political Ideologies Club: We talk about the current events that’s going on in politics about President Trump and decisions he’s made etc, foreign policy, and trade with immigrations
  • California Scholarship Federation: I’ve been with CSF since the end of 8th grade and have earned about 7 semesters and I am on track to be a seal bearer at graduation.

Work experience:
The past two summers, I’ve worked as an office intern at a very successful company, and I was able to earn enough money to pay for my own car. I told UC how much I learned about work and volunteer experience and how beneficial they are for you, that’s something I’ve learned over the past four years.

I feel my essays capture who I am really well (I tend not to post what I wrote I don’t want to be jinxed I guess), but I will say that I am an ambitious first generation college student and I explained this to UCSB.

Thanks so much guys,
Go Gauchos

SAT: 1360
GPA: 3.53

Accepted!

@jameslarkin for last yr right??

@ironweasal: Poster @jameslarkin was Class of 2020 according to their replies.

Probably a dumb question, but I’ll ask anyway. Portal says “Decision Pending.” Do they all say that at this point?

Yes, my student’s portal says “Decision Pending” and then a paragraph saying decisions will be posted beginning March 20, 2018.

Really hoping to get into UCSB but I know my ACT is below average

Intended major: English

ACT: 26 (I know it’s low)
ACT essay: 11 (if it helps at all considering I applied English major)

same stats as you lol

@Soccergirl2232 and @candylover132 Although ok it may be lower than the average student applying to UCSB, in our family’s eyes due to sadly the score our son got on the ACT each time he took it, ( same score received each time) your ACT score is NOT low. Good luck to you guys.
