Currently in disbelief - so excited to have been accepted. I know how upset some people must be right now, I’ve shared those same feelings but I know that it will add up for each and every one of us in the end!! I’m from NJ, so now I’m dying to visit campus - any suggestions for things to see & do?

Congrats to all as a person who’s in college right now…quick reminder that everything turns out fine in the end, honestly. y’all should be proud for making it this far. i remember how stressful the college app process was
@Emmi2147 – Hey I actually lived pretty close to Caltech (grew up near there). the food is top notch. Old town pasadena has some really expensive fancy places that I don’t vibe with, but would check out the nearby San GabrielValley because that place has the most authentic east asian food outside of the area, basically. helps that there are lots of east asian immigrants here. LA as a whole is pretty amazing - Griffith Park, Walt Disney Concert Hall, etc. If you need any more recs DM me
Accepted!!! As an international student applying for financial aid!! I’m so shocked…
T-T
Rejected.
Congratulations to everyone who made it in. Perhaps my rejection meant another person now has a spot at such an amazing school.
@mylifeisgone195 - Thank you so much, you’ve made me so excited!! San Gabriel Valley sounds like my kind of place - I can’t wait to try everything out!

Amazing stats. What major? Hoping she gets in!
Dear Licamine ,
Could you please post your stats and also indicate your gender? It would be great help.
Guys I was wondering would anyone be willing to look over my Caltech essays?
I think the essays really KILLED me for caltech…even though I spent months on them.
I would REALLY appreciate if anyone could PM me and look at the essays…
I got a WAITLISTED, even though I was ISEF 3-time consecutive Finalist, Regeneron scholar (top-300), Published scientific paper as sole author, Internships at Stanford and Berkeley, 2 patents pending, 4-time CA science fair qualified with some placements there…
Sorry I just feel very very lost right now…
I’m posting this to help future applicants. These are my son’s stats…he was accepted EA at Caltech. Bottomline it is very very difficult to predict based on stats alone. The process is subjective. All you can do is make sure your application tells YOUR story the best it can. Everyone will find a great fit.

SAT II: 800 Math I, 800 Math II, 800 Chemistry, and 800 Physics

Other Tests (AMC, AP, IB): 5: AP World History, English, BC Calculus, Chemistry, US History, Statistics
Subjective
Essays: Very good. He spent time on campus while being recruited for soccer and that gave him a great feel for the school and the kids, which found its way into the essays.
Teacher Recs: STEM rec was probably 10/10, as it was written by physics teacher. Humanities rec was Jr english teacher. Also, submitted rec from university professor (now at JPL) who he was a research assistant for during Jr year.
Counselor Rec: I would think very good. He’s known the counselor for many years (goes to a K-12 private school)
Supplementary Material: Co-authored published paper in the field of Astrophysics with university professor
Hook(recruited athlete, legacy, Nobel Prize): Research Paper, Athlete (soccer)
Personal
Location: Texas
High School Type: Mid-Size Private
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Male
Other
Extracurriculars: Three Varsity sport athlete, captain on all teams, 1st Chair Cellist and Orchestra officer, various school groups selected by faculty and students.
Awards: Numerous school awards in academic subjects, National Merit Finalist (Semifinalist at time of admission), Cum Laude Society, Nationally ranked in football, no robotics or science fairs of any kind
Other Schools: Admitted MIT (EA), Caltech (EA), Michigan, Univ. of Texas, Columbia (Likely Ltr and Science Research Fellow), Harvard (waiting)
Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: Regarding athletics, I believe that it does give your application an edge if you are recruited by a coach at Caltech. However, at schools such as Caltech or MIT, athletes are by no means “less qualified” than other applicants; the coach’s power only extends so far as they can allow a qualified applicant with special athletic skills be noticed by admissions. I think the research work he did his junior year and the paper was critical as was his visit to the school.
Literally being first in the world (absolute 1st place at one of the International Science Olympiads) is not enough for Caltech. Being an international sucks… ( + perfect GPA & SAT IIs, 1530 SAT)
@VicVes You won one of the ISOs and were rejected?
