My youngest son applied 10/15, received his acceptance to Arts and Sciences a few weeks ago. Scholarship info was included. We are OOS. Honors application submitted on 11/15.
My oldest son is a Freshman at USC, Arnold School of Public Health. He is in the Capstone program. Loves USC.
If your child is applying to ASPH be aware that there is a per semester fee for enrollment in the college. We didn’t learn about it until orientation this summer and it is substantial. SC Residents pay $700 semester, and OOS $1,300 semester. My oldest son is very happy at USC, but those added fees meant that it would have been financially favorable to stay in VA for school. Not meant to discourage anyone, just to be prepared.
Whoa, seriously @VAMom23??? We’re OOS VA also, and DD got into ASPH. Had no idea of the extra fees. Is it just for lab fees or whatever? They should make those more transparent before you apply, IMO…
Is it accepted knowledge that the kids who have already heard back are the “higher stat” kids out of the EA pool? Someone posted that on a new thread so I’m curious. I just assumed DD heard so early because she applied super early.
@g8rmomk8ans I have not been able to quite figure it out. My son found out within 3-4 weeks of applying. I
thought it was his ACT score (30) that got him in (with a scholarship), but a couple of others got in with better GPA’s and lower test scores. One of those got money, the other didn’t. He has other friends (again with higher GPA’s and lower test scores) that haven’t heard anything and they applied well before he did.
We’re still waiting to hear as well. I was hoping to hear something early, but nothing yet. My DS has a 33 ACT, but a lower GPA (about a 3.2) as he attends an extremely rigorous and prestigious prep school. He applied by 10/15 and is an URM. I’m a nervous wreck in this process, but he’s not anxious at all!
No, that is in addition to the regular university fees. If you attend summer session you pay the PT pro rated fee (extra $85 hr). This fee is also applied to credits earned outside of the school and transferred back in for credit from an OOS summer school. They explained that it funds internships, research and other costs. It is on the Bursars page, but not under ASPH–look under Public Health Professions. Other colleges have large fees too…Engineering for example. I’m not familiar with all of them. I understand that the info has been added to Info sessions presented by the school during admission events. My son would likely have still wanted to go to USC. He absolutely loves it, but I had wished I realized it before July.
Daughter applied September 22nd and got acceptance letter early November but no info regarding scholarship yet. We are OOS (PA) and she has 1350 SAT, 3.6 unweighted GPA…our school does weighted on 100 point scale so we aren’t sure what USC will convert that to on 4.0 scale. Not sure if the fact that she received acceptance with no scholarship mention means she isn’t getting anything…
It sounds like everyone who got scholarship money heard in their acceptance letters. We got a lesser one that we were expecting, so I think the competition was tough this year.
USC Admissions just tweeted that EA decisions are coming next week. D got a big USC envelope today but it doesn’t have a YES on it…so my feeling is it’s just a packet full of information.
Would you mind sharing what state you leave in? We are also anxiously awaiting here in PA. My daughter got similar packet few weeks back from Admissions, which did not look like junk mail and there was also a letter from the Admissions Office that her application was processed and she will hear by the deadline noted on their website. We were intrigued but also confused by it because it came directly from the Admissions office. Few other kids got the same packets and after several weeks they received their acceptance letter. Did anyone else here receive similar packet and then got accepted or denied?
@DT2022 We are in NJ. D applied Nov 1 (or Oct 30, I forget) after they kept e-mailing her to apply by that date in order to have enough time to apply for honors. She got her Honors app in on the 15th. The packet she received today seems to be the same one you received, and they probably sent it because she was new to their list. She decided to apply to USC when she didn’t make the NCState deadline of Oct 15 because of school, work, and field hockey schedule. Still hoping to hear with the batch of Early Answer decisions that are coming out next week. Her stats are:
ACT - 34 composite (32 M, 34 S, 35 E, 36 R)
Superscore SAT - 1450 730M 720 E
GPA 93/100 in an all honors, competitive admission high school
500+ hours community service with a breast cancer charity
Rock band for 8 years
Field hockey (Varsity Jr and Sr year)
Her classmate applied very early and already heard back, with at least a tuition reduction scholarship. D doesn’t know her classmate’s stats.
Noticed a response to a tweet today by admissions regarding Honors College decisions. It was “Those will be coming in a couple of weeks as well.” Good luck !
We’re in NC and many kids at my daughter’s school have heard already (EA from USC), but not my daughter’s friend. She applied to the School of Nursing - do think because it’s more competitive then the other schools?
My S18 got his YES envelope around 11/3. He got a tuition reduction merit scholarship offer that said it was not yet final, but at least XX amount. He sent his application in around mid September. He is not necessarily a high stat kid - has a 1350 SAT, and 4.4 weighted GPA, 6 AP classes - but has several outstanding ECs. We are OOS. I hope the rest of you hear very soon.
