Class of 2022 Deferred SCEA Thread

I’m going to start off by saying that there is still hope.

We’ve all worked hard so the fact that Yale, THE Yale, is interested in us already says something. Let’s keep our chins up, keep working at what we love, and be patient until March to find out the ultimate decision.

BUT that doesn’t mean that we should just sit idly by. We can use this thread to give each other advice, reflect on our own applications, share news, or just to have the chance to talk to other people who are on the same boat. We’re all on this together, and hopefully we will also be able to someday attend Yale together too. Now post away!

This is an article that Yale posted last year about what to do after a deferral: https://admissions.yale.edu/bulldogs-blogs/hannah/2016/12/15/deferred-we-have-some-advice-you

Article’s Main Highlights:

  • “A deferral from Yale means one thing and one thing only: We need more time to consider your application…You were not deferred because there is something wrong with your application. In fact, it’s quite the opposite: if you were deferred it means your application is strong enough to continue to be seriously considered by the admissions committee.”
  • “We do not recommend that you send the admissions office piles of updates after a deferral…if you want you can send us one letter of update to let us know what you’ve been up to since November 1st.”
  • “The bottom line is that “deferral” does not mean “we need more information” or “something wasn’t good enough.” It means we see a lot of great potential in you and we just need a little more time to sit in that committee room and mull things over.”

My dude I love you I’m in need of this deffered support group

Thank you!

I know some people are probably upset about being deferred, but it is Yale! The fact that we were deferred means that we are serious candidates to attend Yale, and everyone should be super proud!

what are the odds to get accepted after being deferred?

They say it is about the same as RD applicants, but I would have to think it is at least a little higher because we weren’t outright denied! I read that half of Princeton’s total applicant class a year or two ago was made up of SCEA applicants.

842 people but not me…

Haha no problem, we have to stick together and be strong

@emily523 No idea, I tried looking around but they don’t really publish those sorts of statistics. If it were Stanford then I’d say that we have a good chance but Yale defers a high amount of its SCEA applicants.

Honestly I would have had better chances applying early somewhere else but I ended up choosing Yale anyways because that’s just how much I love the school. Why did you guys choose to use your single early application on Yale?

So 55% got deferred. With 29% denied and 2% incomplete, I guess we made it to the top 69%.

Top 69%!!! Woohoo!!!
I used my single choice for Yale just because I liked it a lot. I went on a campus visit there and everyone seemed super nice and friendly and I just fell in love with the school. My parents are kinda mad at me now because my sister went to Princeton and they wanted me to use my early action to apply there because they thought I’d have a better chance there because of my sister, but oh well. Yale was worth a shot

My classmate got in with potentially fewer credentials, ugh the salt. Anyone know if Ivies take how many people got admitted from your school into account when assessing your deferred application?

I’m still really excited- I feel like there’s hope!

what’s the next step? is anyone gonna send an update letter?

It ain’t over till it’s over. Dig in for finals and let’s do this.

Here visiting from the Brown ED deferred thread. We’re with you. Good luck to all of you in RD.

This was the one thing I wanted for Christmas. We can just skip it now

Hey guys new to this site but I was looking at the other thread. I already know one person who got accepted from my school and another who got deferred so my chances are pretty shot haha

what a deferral means that youre a qualified applicant at least. yale and other top schools can pretty much pick and choose who they want, so thats why people with perfect stats get rejected. we in this together guys

I don’t think being deferred means we qualified. They were clear: they need more time to evaluate us. There were a bunch of people from last year who I know got deferred, and none of them made it at RA, despite update letters they sent. But in the end, they are all happy somewhere else. So we will give it our best shot, but also have plans B, C and D.
