Class of 2022 Nursing Admissions

@twobowmon thank you so much :slight_smile: I ended up getting accepted and being an NY resident with financial struggles I think it is the best choice for me.

twobow: Moravian has had joint RN programs with St. Lukeā€™s School of Nursing for many years, I believe their own BSN program is relatively new. Their new health care building has allowed a big increase in nursing enrollment.

hey there everyone!

Iā€™m a little late to the discussion, but I wanted to add my two cents anyways. Iā€™m a girl from NYC and I applied to a total of 9 schools:

Emory: accepted through ED, I was accepted into the college of arts and science and will hopefully begin nursing school my junior year (the nursing program is two years instead of 4 like most schools)

after I found out about my acceptance to Emory, I immediately withdrew my applications from all other schools and as a result couldnā€™t find out the rest of my decisions; here are the rest of my schools:

Stonybrook: accepted through the onsite program they do at our school, never found out if I made it into the prenursing program.

Binghamton: applied EA, was deferred then waitlisted; i suspect it was because 4 other students from my school applied to nursing as well, and the program itself is quite selective as well.

Adelphi: accepted through rolling, was offered an interview for the honors college but turned it down as soon as I got into Emory

I also applied EA to northeastern, case, upittsburgh, villanova and umich and was about to apply regular to boston college and upenn.

overall, Iā€™m really happy that I got into Emory for nursing, I chose it partially because they had a hospital on campus, it was far enough away from my family but not too far, and I got a really nice vibe from the campus when I visited.

let me know if you have any questions about emory!!

@julia35002 -

Two of my children attended Plattsburgh and loved it, though neither went for nursing. Dā€™s best friend has worked as a travel nurse since her graduation several years ago and has lived in a number of cities across the country. She is a surgical OR nurse. My sonā€™s friendā€™s graduated last year and has been working steadily at a hospital on LI. My D says her other friends in the nursing program are all working or pursuing higher degrees.

As for the school itself, the area is nice and pretty. My kids had/have plenty of friends and there are lots of things to do.

Most people canā€™t beat the price of a SUNY school, so good luck and enjoy your time upstate.

@hemingways
Did you make your decision?

@am9799 Yes! I have chosen to attend Gonzaga University. Iā€™m super excited! Go zags! :slight_smile:

Final Decision:

Sonā€™s final decision was to enroll at Duquesne in Pittsburgh.

Brief recapā€¦Pitt top choice but only school that didnā€™t offer him merit, so we pulled the plug on that one (he was a bit bummed at first, but when I asked him last week if he could add Pitt back as an option, he said he would now pick DUQ based on size, campus look/feel, same clinicals and nationally ranked hospitals as Pittā€¦whew!). He applied to 20+ schoolsā€¦yes that was crazy but we kept hearing how tough it is for nursing admissions, but looking back we should have done more homework before applying as we could have narrowed that down to about 10. Accepted at all except for UVA which we knew would be a really, really long shot (he had no interest in applying but I forced it since it is pretty much one of the only in state options for us with direct admission).

And it all boiled down to these schoolsā€¦Duquesne, University of Scranton, Quinnipiac, York.

Well, decision day has passed. I know itā€™s been a long selection process. For instance my D just decided 2 weeks ago and she chose SDSU!

How about the rest of you? @redheadedmess12 @pingotip @RobotMom18 @Momofanurse @Melgaye @futurenurse77 @minivanmom @am9799 and everyone else - what was your final decision?

Congrats to all!

@Banker1
D was accepted to UMass Amherst, Umass Lowell, Boston College, Northeastern, Simmons, UNH and Villanova. And although she really wanted to go to school in or near Boston the two programs that impressed her the most were UNH and Villanova. She deposited the last minute but I think she is still a bit undecided ha ha .

Hi everyone, congratulations on your acceptances! My D is finishing sophomore year in high school so we are reading with interest all of your experiences. Just wondering, did anyone apply to Iowa? Accepted? Going?

@am9799 Congrats on so many great options for your daughter! Curious - did she decide UNH or Villanova? I am impressed to hear that UNH beat out some of the other schools on your list. We need to tour there - I keep hearing good things about it! My daughter liked UMass Amherst but the acceptance numbers are making her nervous - would you mind sharing your daughterā€™s SAT numbers?
Thanks!!

@tae1970 my daughter chose Iowa (direct admit), was also accepted into nursing at Marquette, U of Minnesota, Clemson as well as a few ā€œpre nursing programsā€ that we did not seriously consider. Was rejected from Purdue.

@Flo123 that is great! We have many visits to do, but my daughter would love to go to Iowa. Did you do Early Action? It is my alma mater and we live in Illinois. Any tips or insight you can give would be greatly appreciated.

A few weeks ago I decided that I am going to be attending Grand Canyon University next fall! TCU was my dream school but the cost was not worth it, even with a pretty good scholarship. Unfortunately, GCU is not direct entry but with the AP credit from last year alone I should be allowed to apply for clinicals at least a semester early and with 4 tests in the next few weeks Iā€™m hoping to make it even earlier. They also donā€™t allow transfer students into the nursing program now, so itā€™s just you vs other incoming freshmen. Good luck to everyone else on their future endeavors, thank you for making this process so much easier!

@Banker1 after much deliberation, I finally decided to attend University of Miamiā€™s nursing school! I was waitlisted at UVA and UPenn, and those decisions have not come out yet, but I will most likely be sticking with Miami no matter what :slight_smile: congrats to your daughter on SDSU!

There was a story on NPR about how the list of wait lists have greatly expanded in recent years, and that only a small percentage of students are accepted off of them in many years at many colleges. They can give a student false hope. Learn to love where you are accepted, and if a wait list offer comes through, treat it as a pleasant surprise.

@Banker1 Sorry for the late reply, but I have decided to commit to USF because of the scholarship I received and the 4+1 program that allows me to receive my BSN and MSN in 5 years. Also, itā€™s near my home and Iā€™d like to stay in the Bay Area. Univeristy of Michigan and NYU were definitely by top choices but I guess my family couldnā€™t really afford it, and I guess it isnā€™t a very smart investment. University of Washington and Ohio State are also great but the pre-major method seemed a little too risky. Case Western is a nice school, but Cleveleand is dying city and I didnā€™t think Iā€™d like to live there.

@pingotip Congrats on the USF selection. Iā€™m posting the link to their 4+1 program if anyone wants to read about it. https://www.usfca.edu/nursing/programs/undergraduate/4-1

Final decisionā€¦ Penn State - University Park! Great nursing program on the campus that is going to offer the most well rounded university experience as well. She contemplated her decision for literally months, whittled down her list based on a variety of factors. In the end it was pretty much down to Penn State and USF with U Mass following right behind. In the end nothing could beat the PSU program when coupled with school spirit, great college town, strong performing arts department (her other passion) and the alumni network that Penn State will offer. Clinicals at Hershey Medical Center guarantee her trauma level 1 experience (both adult and pediatric). She hopes to become an ER or trauma nurse and this type of clinical experience will be invaluable.

We areā€¦PENN STATE!

@dancingpotato3 can you share your stats with us?
