Class of 2022 Rice RD Discussion Thread

Guys make sure you’re checking your ESTHER; you may not have gotten scholarships but the Fin Aid should already be posted

@CMKingOfFl this might sound like a dumb question but where can I find my user ID and PIN? I haven’t gotten an email about my credentials for esther (only for the student portal) and there’s no information in the acceptance or scholarship letters.

@warrenbass If you never got an email you have to email Financial Aid and ask them for it, otherwise just double check your spam/what email you used for the app. I know I made the mistake of putting my personal email instead of my college email so I was checking in the wrong inbox the whole time XD

@CMKingOfFl okay! Thanks so much

Last year my daughter couldn’t find the Esther email either. This is what she found out last year–the guy in financial aid said the student (not parent) must send an email to fina@rice.edu from the email address Rice has on file for the student and request an ESTHER login. The student will then need to provide his/her full name and birthdate and possibly Rice application ID. He also said packages with financial aid info were coming via snail mail and would arrive soon. Apparently Rice sent out an email in January 2017 last year with this info. However, my D couldn’t find the Jan. email. The financial aid snail mail came about a week later as did the big white envelope from Rice regarding acceptance.

This is so helpful! Thank you so much for posting!!!

Yay! I got accepted (97% GPA from Canada, 35 ACT). I’m still waiting for the Financial Aid offer in ESTHER…it hasn’t been posted for me yet.

Congrats to everyone, regardless of the decision :). Everyone is going to do amazing things no matter what.

Rejected :frowning:

Not bummed because I do have options, but it would have been nice to know that Rice was part of those. Congrats to all those who were accepted!

waitlisted…any idea , how many get waitlisted and chances of getting off the waitlist ?

DS accepted and received distinguished Trustee scholarship. He had attended the Vision program.

To people who were accepted: do you know how to join the fb page for class of 2022? I requested to join it but it doesn’t seem like it is working …

Still can’t believe I got accepted… One of the happiest moments of my life!
Anyone else check the portal late and see that they sent emails saying “Admitted Student Chat” and freak out???

Does anyone know if the acceptance rate really did drop this year? Thanks!

I’m waitlisted and for those also waitlisted who are also waitlisted and curious on chances, they are not good… they are worse than your chances to get in RD, especially when you consider they took 0 waitlisted last year

When did everyone get their financial aid/scholarship package?

@azuresia it was available in ESTHER when decisions came out

@aikon17, see previous posts regarding total incoming class sizes and how many total acceptances were made in 2017 vs 2018. Clearly, it appears that the yield in 2017 was high enough that they received more than the expected class size from the 2800 total acceptances needing 0 from waitlist. This year, however, the total acceptances were about 500 less (around 2300). One would have to assume that they are counting on drawing from waitlist should the yield be lower than expected. That said, as @ProllyBrokeSoon states, chances are bleak but likely to be slightly better than 2017. That said, most colleges fill waitlist to maintain the mix they were anticipating. So if you are pianist on the waitlist, hope other pianists offered admission fail to show up come May 1st. A gymnast failing to show up may not open the waitlist for the pianist… JMHO. It is best not to have high hopes on waitlist as the chances are slim to none.

Accepted for CS!

@Holistic2 - Agree with you on waitlist. We were waitlisted and at this point, are no longer bothering w/ Rice. We’re fortunate to have good alternatives to choose from (UChicago, Emory, UT, GW). Also, TBH, the moment we read that Rice is not giving merit scholarships to anyone accepted from the waitlist, Rice became a no go for us.

Congrats to everyone who was accepted! For those who were rejected or waitlisted and Rice was your dream school, don’t take it personally. There are plenty of very good colleges out there. Good luck to all of you.

I can’t believe I got accepted with a merit scholarship!! So excited!

Accepted for Engineering!
SAT: 1580, 4.0 GPA uw, pretty high subject test scores as well, many an AP course too
bunch of activities and president/co-president of 4 organizations, various accolades across all sorts of things including music, dance, and robotics.
from NJ

Only problem is that I think they expected a tax return when I had a waiver indicating that I have no income? So i guess I am going to have to call the financial aid office ASAP about that one. Still waiting on other colleges, but honestly this is pretty much my top school currently.

Congrats to everyone else accepted!
